More pictures. :D

I'm hoping this fan setup will sort the heating issues I've had in the past.

Image
Image

Gotta have a handle to raise and lower the spot lights. That will be some trick setup once Corey has finished it. 8) Rick at 4WD Accessories will be wiring them all up.

Image

Now the new extractors will be something else!!

Image

The intake for the air compressor will come from the filtered side of the airbox.

Slowly but surely things are moving along.
I'm hoping that all the mods will be done in 2 weeks from now. Then it's off to Stu at, "Trim Tech". He's doing the soft top.

looking good pete, do those pipes come out before the wheels? not to pick holes but have you checked the legality of the system? i was always told that if you had back doors or opening back windows the exhaust had to exit after the wheels but if you had for example a coupe with sealed back windows you could put them before the back wheels but after the doors.
Others have told me that it always has to be behind the real axle..
not sure where you place being a soft top?? i would be interested to no beacuse i couldn't get away with having pipes there on a 4 door car

Sorry about the delay.
Just measured seats up. They are 350mm wide and 900 long. Hope that helps. :D

Hi Dave.
The following picture is of my other FJ40 i sold. It's had no issues with it being in that position during it's life. Though I know the law changes, such as. I had my V8 FJ40 certified just before they made it compulsory to have steel hoops under both drive shafts to get it certified. Mine didn't need any. I was lucky.
I've spoken with Rick at 4WD Accessories about all the mods being done and he tells me he'll still pass it for a warrant of fitness.
I've even spoken to Kevin Geary who's modified my Holden about my 40. He's working on it as well. He does warrants. He tells me the same as Rick. I did run the mods pass both of them before they got done as I didn't want any trouble.

Cheers Dave. I'd like to hear what you find out about it.
I'm not really into a loud cruiser. I think I'm getting to old for that kind of thing. I don't want the law pulling me up all the time. And when I'm out hunting, I don't want the game running away either. Give us a wave when ya see me about. :D

if you don't want it too sound too loud, then ditch the twins and go single.

I had twin set up and went with a 3" single exiting behind the left rear wheel.

best thing I ever did

sounds soooooo much better

with the twins when you're driving down the road, you tend to mainly hear the exhaust out the drivers side only and it sounds like shit.

go the single its way better

I know what you mean skid. But when the petrol tank position changed there was no room for it to exit at the rear. Where it exits now is the only place for it to go. So... back to the single vs twin system.

My Holden runs a twin "difilipo" system but both pipes exit at the same spot. Out the back. It sounds way better than than the all into one system, trust me. But the sound isn't everything (far from it) The "difilipo" systems are the best system money can buy. It out performs everything. And hey, it's a twin pipe system. 8)

Here's my main point. As I said, I'm not into a system that "sounds" better. I'm into a system that performs the best. And it isn't a 8 into 1.
If the pipes out each side don't sound the best or like you put it, sound like shit, that doesn't bother me. I'm into the fastest or best performing system. :D

I'll you tube a vid of it smoking up the 35's at some stage.

Looks good pete, will love to hear it screaming it's head off in the bush some time :P
as for the exhaust system, here's a link to the LTSA req's
http://www.ltsa.govt.nz/certifiers/virm ... -11-v3.pdf

also of note will be the new rule coming into effect 1st June 2008, where we'll have to have a maximum output of 100 decibels.

Cheers for that! So long as mine isn't louder than 100db's I'll be ok I think.
I'm looking forward to seeing it on the dyno with the throttle wide open, again  I'll be youtubing that for sure! :D It'll be interesting to see how many horses are at the back wheels this time. I expect some kind of gain.
The crowd who did the original repower (I won't mention their name) used a Holden fuel pump for the V8. But they used a V6 one for god sakes. It always had fuel pressure issues. NOT ANY MORE!

I'm told, the track bar will be finished tomorrow. :D
As the leaf spring system only gives me a small amount of articulation I'm not going with a swivel or pivot system. The large bushes at the front and back will give me enough movement and not restrict articulation at all. While keeping the bar overall stronger. I'll need it as strong as pos.
Rick at 4WD Accessories will have it by Wednesday. (all things going to plan) He'll be wiring up all the spot lights and the central mounted batteries. Installing the remote shock adjusters. Finishing off the air compressor system.
Once he's finished with it, it's off to get the soft top done.

The aim is to have it ready for when my kids are here these next school holiday (April 18th).
Fingers crossed!

hi Sig.
The fuel pump of a V6 Commodore motor is smaller than one of a V8 Commodore motor. I'm told that from, "Kevin Geary Performance" here in Chch. He's worked on Holdens for years. And if he's stumped on anything, he's got good connections with people in Aussy who eat and breath Holdens.

He tells me that unless you're going to supercharge your V8 Holden the stock V8 fuel pump will handle a fuel increase no problem. He went on to tell me that the stock V6 fuel pump should never be used to fuel even a stock V8.

I was gutted to hear that my modified V8 was using a stock V6 fuel pump.

No thanks to me, so far, I'm proud of the quality of the build! Corey is doing a mint job on all the fabricating. Rick and Mark at 4WD Accessories have done a great job so far as well! I won't be seeing the bill for a week or so yet, but it will be getting up there. But that's cool. I think I'm getting a good job done and that's my main concern.

Talking about coil springs vs leaf. It's a matter of what I'm using the truck for and the cost of doing coil springs.
I'm not at that stage where I'm into hard core four wheel driving. As the people that were at the last Sheffield mud plug know, my skills off roading are pretty bad. I'm learning. But I'm just not at that coil spring stage.
One day maybe. Then I'll modify my truck again. :D
Sorry to disappoint you.

Hey there guys!
I'm happy to say that the 40 was fired up today running the new extractor system Corey made. I was really impressed.
It sounded a little quieter than the last system. But i think not hearing it suck hard out through the snorkel made a difference. The new air box has silenced that. This is great for hunting. But when it comes to off roading, I want as much noise as it can put out! Means more grunt. So Corey is going to make up a butterfly system where by a flick of a switch it'll go from a muffler system to straight pipes.

Here's a youtube clip of when I first started it today with the new system. :D

Ok. That was a bad recording of the first fire up, I give you that. But trust me skid. There's plenty more of that V8 sound coming up on youtube. HEY! Once my brother builds up his new burnout pad on his lifestyle block, just lookout for new youtube stuff coming from "pete401" !!! 8)

And, I really like that dead guy's sound anyway. More than the new sound. :D
