thats a good welder to have at home do you run hard wire only?? you can run flux core with co2 with that

Most of my welding is inside so generally use .8 solid wire with CO2.
Since you have mentioned about flux core with CO2, I have looked deeper into it and have ordered a roll.

I have always believed it was miles dearer but have since found out the Flux core for use with CO2 is only $20 dearer for a 15 kg roll.

It is only the Flux core without the CO2 that is expensive.

Got a promo in the mail today from the "tool shed" saying they can sell you a 5kg bottle of co2 gas for $595 . wen empty take it back to get filled. So gets away from that mongrol rental bottle trap. May be good value for those that dont use much gas. Not sure havnt used gas for a few years now. mostly outside so use flux core

hahaha i rent a big bottle of co2 -Size F- (about 20-25kg of co2) from boc to fill my paint ball bottles and costs $14.55 a month, costs $60 to fill up, lasts for ages filling 7 to 20 ounce paintball bottles which hold about .60 cents worth of gas (i charge $2 a fill, which is darn sight cheaper than Hunting and Fishing).

also rent Argoshield Universal Size D $13.28 per month for the mig.

I own my own 5kg Co2 bottle. I think it cost $70 when I bought it.

Had it refilled today and that cost $50 .

Is that what others are paying or am I being ripped off ?

I am over a barrel a bit because there is only 1 place in Richmond that can fill them.

To drive to Nelson and back is over half an hour so the time I count my time and the running expenses it would make it dearer

lol when i was doing hydraulics.. id go through a g of argoshield a week and a couple of 20kg rolls of wire !!1.2 and 1.6 solid
now ive used 10kg's of wire this month ...0.6

i also dont have to use my resperator all the time
if your welding heaps .. get a mask with carbon filters .. it will save your lungs

oh and flux core and c02 gives you a whats called a low hydrogen weld ...

look up kendels distrubtors in aucks for your wire ... they have a massive range and a pile of speciallity stuff ... and its hlf of what youll pay at yout local tradezone/tool shed

twl has a shitload of lincoln wire at the mo good price and all positional with one temp setting we got givin a box to try it and its all good and cheaper than the boc stuff we usually get

Interesting, I gather from this that you have always been able to own co2 bottles then. I used to use argon shield back in the days wen I had a shed and used a fair bit but hated the bottle rental thing wether you used it or not. So would I get a better looking les splatter weld if I used the co2 and flux cored wire. The splatter pisses me of. makes every thing ugly. Or maybe its the guy hanging on to it thats the proplem.

Repair Jobs all done. New WOF and ready for our 5 day's 4 wheeling at Westport in a couple of weeks.

Strenghtened Panhard rod tower today with 6mm plate



Cut the front guard with angle grinder to stop it binding on front door



Fitted new windscreen



Took some of the dents out.



Replaced Radius rod bush



Moved horn the higher ground and out of the shit



Replaced broken taillight and rear brake shoes and changed oil in new diff.

Hopefully no more repairs till after new year

I have just joined the Series 2 forum in the UK.

There is a good possibility that my 2 could be the oldest in the world.
Numbers 1,2, and three were produced in late march and mine came off the production line on 3rd march so as a prototype it probably sat around awaiting parts or something.

mine is number 16

I have been thinking about the future and think in veiw of all the drama I have been through lately it might be a better choice to do up the old landy rather than modify the Hilux.

nothing like a new project and keep moving forward.

Just think it will be more worth while working on my old Land Rover which could be the oldest original in the world.

Number 20 is in the Dunsfold collection in the UK.

Here is a list of the oldest production ones know from the UK

Yep, this is the oldest production series 2 I know of, this is an export model, they started these first, some 1000 vehicles were built before they made a start on the 'home market' models, of which Sweep is.

Date wise, the earliest surviving vehicles are -

24th March - YOG (export #2)
31st March - diesel (home #4)
2nd April - Sweep (home #22)
2nd April - 1418 00008 (home#8)

Mine was built on the 3rd of march.

Just arrived home from Westport. Nuts joined us most days and showed us around the new track at Charming creek

Really good track in the wet with greasy clay hills. Today Marc Crackett came and we only did a couple of hundred metres because the my hilux broke a CV in a bottomless bog and it took over 2 hrs to get it out before we could change the CV.

Yesterday went through Tailings the hard way from south to North and for the first time I managed to drive the steep hill on the first go out of the Little Totara so that made my day.

Will post a vid tomorrow

Andy Jackson came over from ChCh to test his V8 hilux and managed to sheer the bolts on his a free hub and also screwed a drive shaft.
