1993 SSR-G, 2LTE Valves...

Hi All,
1st Post, hoping for some advice from more experienced Surf owners =)
1993 Surf-SSRG, 2lte motor, 130000kms.
Blowing a bit of bluey-black smoke under acceleration from idle to 2000 rpm, some oil in the turbo pipe near throttle mechanism. Compression down to 340 360 360 360 Psi, leakage around 20 - 30%. Signs of oil between the head and valve cover on throttle (inlet side?) and a slight knock or ping which I am beginning to obsess over! No sign of coolant contamination in the oil, and doesnt overheat, so hopefully not the head....
I am looking to undertake an overhaul and try and regain some performance. Based on these symptoms I was thinking it was probably the valve seals or the piston rings (hopefully not..) . Not sure about the oil in the turbo line though? Any clues here I am overlooking?
I am looking to delve into the head to check the condition of the valves/seals. Before I take the first step does anyone know if the 2lte has easily accessible valves/seals form the top down, or will I have to remove the head from the block to effect their removal?
Also any info on the 2lte valve tolerances, and torque requirements for the valve-cover bolts and headbolts would be good.
much appreciated,
