Whats Involved In Installing New Rings -SD33

Post by Amstaff »

Hey - my dam truck is getting harder and almost impossible to start on cold mornings, I have checked glowplugs and replaced 1 faulty one, which made no difference. It starts perfectly when hot, but is running quite fumey and I have been told its due to Blow By where the combustion is blowing past rings - so is it worth doing or should I give up??

Get a compression check done. See what the figures are. Blow by is normal.

Glow plugs are a challenge when the truck is cold. If I am starting with a frost I go through a couple of cycles of the glow plugs to get the heat into things. In the US if it is really cold they by pass the glow plug timer and rig up a manual set up and heat them for approx 30 seconds or so.
The other thing with glow plugs is check all the contacts to the glow plugs. If one is loose or all the electrical contacts are not good you will get the same result.
