4WD Light no go & other WOF questions

Post by Fmxmatt »

Heyas

Got a 1987 Manual TD27T Terrano about 6 months ago, and the green 4WD light has never worked. Would like to try to fix it but i'm not sure where to start looking. Can anyone suggest which wires to be looking for at the gearbox end? Have tried replacing the bulb (easiest option first) but still no joy, so I'm assuming something has been damaged at some point.

Secondly, got my WOF due shortly. This being my first 4WD i'm not too sure what is required. I know I'm likely to be up for a couple of new wheel bearings (should I attempt to do these myself?) and the sway bar mounting bush is all buggered (as pointed out by the wheel alignment guys.. any idea where to get one of these from?). The torsion bars are pretty much maxed out, look as though they've had a hiding at some point in their life. Are the WOF officers going to be particular about those kind of things or are they just worried about play in the wheels/bushes?

Cheers :)

Hey

For the 4wd light climb under the drivers side and look for the wires that go into the transcase. There should be 2 or 3 (cant remember) all pretty close together. I had probs with crud getting into these. One is the reverse and one is the 4wd.

As for the warrant stuff. How long is a peice of string :?: :?:   It will depend where you take it. Different place are hard on different things.
