padero facelift

Post by padero »

hi, and before you ask no, this is not an artical on plastic surgery or micheal jackson.. :D

i've got a swb pajero and i kinda had enough of the ungly front end + plus i wanted to put a winch on the baby so any excuse i went and got one.

brand new superwinch sp9i model cost me an arm & leg but hey its well sexy

next was to rip the old bumper off "taking great care" so that it'l go back on if i sell it.. (nah never going to happen) and have a prober look at what's underneth..

got a few idea's in my head and went round to see mike. asked him if he would give me a hand in building something for my winch .. no problem he said.

luckerly mike's engineering skills where at hand and after about a day we had a bloody good base/mount for the winch. didnt stick out too much so no approach angle lost there and it looked prettie good..

next was the bar work, after looking at albundy truck and timsoffroad truck i had a few ideas on how i wanted the bar to look. you know nice and simple but strong.

the workshop next to my work is an engineering place (not mike's workshop) which we do a fair amount of work for so i pop round during smoko and taked to dave, got him to order me some 40mm med wall pipe & a saturday of his time.

sat morning 0800: Zzzz still half asleep i turned up we opend up the workshop drove the truck and set to work, took us about 4 hours to build the bar's with a very chinese bender :? but it did the job.

all that is left now to do is to paint it up and start on the electrics on the truck peice of cake for a sparky i'd say but its not a house so we'll see how it go's i should get it done without any trouble

AND IT WILL BE FINISHED FOR THE 15th JULY !

It looks good

But :?

Is the bar across the front of the winch likey to get in the way when winching up or down a hil?? or is it just the photo

EG Winching over a crest of a hill, you have it connected to a tree at the top, then you feed the cable over the top of the bar, but as you get closer to the top of the hil, the cable starts to winch the vehicle into the bank (ir down on the bar)

I thought that after seeing the pics but the fairlead should go right beneath the bar on those vertical flats sticking out.
