been helping a mate with brakes on his 1990 2.6 petrol mu today and now cant seem to get a handbrake

put new rear pads in after winding in the pistons, re fitted and pumped the pedal 30-40 times, brakes are ok but handbrake only just starts to work but wont hold vehicle. wasnt brilliant before we did the brakes so maybe a deeper problem, any ideas please.

on the rear caliper there is a skinny 14mm bolt(this bolt stops dirt and sand from getting to the handbrake adjusting screw).remove this then use a allen key to adjust the screw 4 handbrake adjustment.have the wheel off the ground and do the allen key screw up untill u can feel it start to stop the wheel from turning then back it off a little so the wheel turns freely.hand brake should be alot betta after doing that.
hope that helps

What I found was the caliper slide wears and then jams up leading to a graunching noise on corners as brakes start to apply, and bugger all handbrake.
Fix cost $250, engineering place bored out slide and put in stainless steel sleeves and put new slide bolts in, after that was better than factory...

What he said ... It seems to be a common problem
The only thing to add is to adjust the hand brake cable so that the little arm that the cable is attached to, on the caliper end actually sits on the stop before adjusting the allen key
I did a blurb on here a while age but I can't find it and the link to it in another post does not work.
