I had one on the 413 engine I sold a while back. The original carby was removed and a tube (guessing it was off the original manifold for the SU) was welded on in a position to have the SU sitting at the right angle. To make it work on side slopes/steep climbs it had breather hole drilled into the top of the fuel bowl just below the inlet. Problem with this was it leaked a small amount of petrol and stunk. Tried blocking the hole and it wouldn't run on a slope. Tried to pipe it into the air intake but it filled with petrol and wouldn't run on a slope.

The SU was a mini cooper "s" one. Went O.k but havent run a standard carb to compare. Guess there must be a way to combat the petrol over flow.

Hey Ryan: i went to the outerlimits site, they seem to like the weber carb for the 413, any thoughts on these, seems bloody technical though.

best thing to fix a su is place on your bench get a great big hammer and beat the shit out of it and recycle the ali, inject it or put a cortina weber on it other wise you will have drama on angles.

Seen this one out a few times now, goes pretty hard with an SU on it. Another mate not far off doing the same mod too his engine. Pommies rave about it (they seem anti efi for some reason :? )
