i am going to turbo my ln106 2.8 diesel hilux (3L) and have everything i need
for it to happen i have a diesel pump off a 2.4 turbo surf the one with the boost compensator on the top
i dont know much about this side of things but as ive been told the boost compensator can
be put on my 2.8 pump? or do i just put the 2.4 pump straight on my 2.8 and crank the fuel?
whats the best way to go about this? Cheers

You can mod the fuel pump to swap the boost compensator the 2.4 doesnt flow enough fuel another option is to go with the 5m pump from a 3.0 diesel landcruiser or truck you dont really need a lot more fuel in a diesel you should monitor exhaust temp closely as you can kill the head quicker with the extra heat.

Diesels run hot anyway but running leaner is not that big an issue in diesels petrols on the other hand running lean will kill them, dont expect turbo's to transform the 2.8 into a power house but it will make it a much more enjoyable drive, closer to a car.

what model was the 3.0L landcruiser? Is it a turbo with a boost compensator? will it bolt straight on? I have a price on a compensator from a new 2.4L onto my soon to be overhauled 2.8L pump. Its not cheap. I'm looking at all possible options before i spend the big bucks.

I could be wrong here but isn't a 5m engine a 6 cyl petrol outa supra etc?

there are two 5m engines from memory one 6 cyl petrol one in the supra and the 3.0 diesel non turbo, the second gives the ability to tune up to supply the extra fuel for a turbo'd application.

Watch the exhaust temps better to shut it down for 5 - 10 min and not crack the head

Hey, you wouldn't be Westport based would you???

If so, Jerome (i know he's moved to Nelson) did the same thing to his Hilux, might be worth getting in contact with him perhaps.........

Cheers,
Pete.

you are right it is a 5L

That was the pump I had on mine, it was fine it gave a little more smoke running around without the turbo like idle or low speed idleing up stuff.

The danger point for a healthy engine is 750 deg C pre turbo on the exhaust manifold. If you've got a more fragile engine then reduce that temp as you see fit. An exhaust gas temp gauge (pyrometer) is a necessary tool when tuning a turbocharged diesel.
My one has saved my engine several times.
