15th & 16th March

Post by gimmemud »

well a bit early but hired a hot water blaster tonight to clean the underside of the truck so i can put chassis black on it tomorrow. got absolutely filthy and soaked but am gonna love the bling look at the end of the weekend and of course the antirust action as well. cleaned the rest of the truck after last weekends effort and whole damn mud hides a lot! found a few new big dents. Bugger!

Did the wires loop today. Dam hard on the truck that track.
Damage: RH front indicator, LH tail light, rh radius rod bush, plasma winch rope, both front panels, Drivers door.
But what a great day. I went with half a dozon rough trucks and I don't think the nissan whale let the side down at all.
Time to put the truck back in the workshop for msome TLC.

fitted transfer box back in after new crawler gears fitted, tested out down the Kowai river, works great .
had fitted lockers the month before then just ran out of power to turn them.
seems to have done the trick, off over the coast at Easter

Shot up to Clevedon to tag along in a little fundraiser hosted by Duncan Munro. I had a very pleasant day being co-pilot to my wife who took the reins of her Wrangler and had a ball.
Image

RJ also got his Pajero out and about, with mrs RJ doing all the hard bits!! (well not quite true, they shared).
Image

Also got to meet up with "BrentC".. always great to fit a face to the nickname. Nice to meet you Brent.

Big thanks to Duncan for hosting the day.

Pulled out the POS old two knob stereo that came with the Rangie and fitted an old but good Sony unit.

Scraped off a few "No Fear" stickers.

Had several discusions with the finance controller about colour schemes for it - Orange and Black Tiger stripes or maybe Yellow and Black??

Oh and painted my littlest boys bedroom, mowed the lawns, worked etc........ all that good stuff

Cheers Muddymatt

Busy weekend for me ... catching up on all those little jobs i couldnt do while recovering from surgery, Gave Ferozaush a tune up as it's been pinking and pinging a little since i finally hooked up the snorkel.
Was up the back of the farm and snotted a hunk of wood and bent my swaybar mount and thought maybe it was time to put my bash plate back on again (i had removed it to fit the winch) after re mounting it i decided it didnt look very strong as it's just pressed body steel so i mounted some 5mm Alumimuimumunumunumunm Checker Plate in front and under the bash plate and painted a really nice Bling colour that clashes well with the body.

I went for a wee cruise into Forestdale. (Mt Thomas area). Not the sort of place you'd really make a trip to go to, its a formed road, not very long or rough most of the time. Have had a modern starlet in there before, but just a quiet place to get out of it all for a wee while.

Apart from that, today I've been using the work van to cart stuff while Dad's been using my cruiser for towing his trailer while his Prado is getting straightened.
Sold my 1985, BJ74 MWB Landcruiser, rear locker, 33" MTs, snorkel, PTO winch, solid bars all round, spotties, AM CB etc.
Now just a 1994, 1kz Surf, pretty standard.

Pulled the front diff out of the surf, pulled it apart, removed locker (thanks to hosehustlers instructions was rather easy, made those pop rivets rather redundant tim  - I had put those lockers in over two years ago and have never removed one, couldnt even remember how i put them togeather!), pulled replacement front diff apart put locker in reassembled and is now awaiting refitting into the front of the surf.

Finished the new back bumper for the Paj, measured up the discs for wear and stripped the cab lining out ready for the revinning inspection. (No big deal, it ain't goin back in! :D ) Big tyres certified last week by the local LVVTA guy for speedo recal and had it checked at the same time for anything else that may need certing. All was good so pick up the plate tomorrow. Putting new disc pads all round tomorrow as they looked a bit close to minimum and don't want to risk a reject. Rechecks are just a bloody hassle.

went to the Selwyn river for abit of a look around at lunch time. had replaced the hubs so i thought id give them a test. all was going well intil the truck shut down, the computer detected an electrical fault, so she wasnt going anywhere  . we had a hell of a time getting the truck out of the river bed, that shingle is terrible when your trying to tow. i had 2 trucks hooked up and its taken us 6hours to recover it and tow it back to chch, the last thing i wanted to do was leave it down there. what a bugger.

Big ass weekend for me in the shed. Pulled rear end out, fitted bigger springs, raised shackles and a LSD rear diff. then fitted 50mm body lift, addapted radiator shroud, removed factory side steps. removed factory bumpers fitted three out of four tow hooks, feel absolutly rooted, come to work for a rest. still have heaps to do before easter. so will be a few late nights in the shed this week me thinks. have front and rear bars, side bars, recovery gear box, 12 volt system, fridge, sub amp, and cup holders to go......
If you follow me in the bush you must be mad cause I'm plain CRAZY !!!
