I would go for an injected if you have the choice, but most of the earlier NZ Vitaras are carb'ed. All the Escudos are injected to the best of my knowledge.

if you use the injected motor, you also need a fuel pump, complete wiring harness and ecm, air flow meter,
also when you change over to either conversion, check the extractors don`t hang down to low.

Im huge fan of injected ones (G16b as opposed to G16a I believe), had mates with carbied ones and injected ones way better/smoother power, more reliable on hills offroad, use less gas. On other hand I have heard that carbied ones torque begins lower? With one hand giveth whilst other taketh away...

Think engines are very pricy for what they are...assuming standard rrp from wrecker, Ive known people to pay between $1000 and $1300 for G16b whilst have known others to purchase 1UZFE (think right code, 4L V8 Lexus engine) for $1100 incl wiring!
So another option (if fits in Samurai) is to look at G20 while you're spending money...2L Suzuki with 106Kw.

thanks for that info, ive made my mind up carby it will be. but $1000 plus is a little steep might have to do some hunting around for some lower prices. i was going to get some coby extractors for the engine when i find one at the right price.
