1991 hilux

looking at a 1991 hilux with the 2.2 litre petrol motor in it what are they like overall and what are they like on fuel thanks

another invers boy..welcome.
theyre terrible on gas!!! mates got one and its shocking!hes tried everything to gte it abit more economical but he cant.
thats the only problem its eva given him, apart from its dog slow but ya get that wih diesels aswell.

my last truck was a lwb safari with a 4.2 petrol the hilux should be cheaper to run tthan that

Don't count on it - mine used to get 350km to a tank of petrol (65L)! Believe what he said, they totally suck at fuel economy.
Having said that, it was reliable, if a little gutless... and would run quite happily under water with a little silicone around the dizzy cap - in fact the factory plug-lead seals are really good and it would chug along fully submersed without skipping a beat (until the clutch plate got soaked)...
Mine was dual fuel, and used to get almost the same distance on half the price when running LPG... if you can find one like that then you'll be set.

Yeah not too good, my Uncle has a 1988 2.2petrol hilux and he did from Dunedin to Cromwell (230ish km I think, 2 hrs 45) in 30-odd litres of gas. My old Subaru 1.8, not the most fuell efficient car on the road, did the same trip in 16 litres.
Went spotlighting in it for a couple of hours and did half a tank,, expensive bunnys that night!!!
