Went for a bash today and got well stuck in a mud hole, Fortunately another 4wd happened along and towed me out. I cant blame the truck setup so it must be the nut behind the wheel that failed, So whats the best technique for dealing with deep mud holes? do i need to carry speed into them and maintain momentum or slow in and try not to spin the wheels too much? or just avoid them full stop if I'm traveling without someone to tow me out?

Depends on tyres, rut depth, type of mud, length of hole, depth of hole, entrance and exit of hole etc etc etc.
Comes with experience, so best to not venture out alone, and head along to the next training day.

You dont want to charge into holes full speed without knowing how deep it is, whats on the bottom, or if you are alone, in case you get stuck. Theres heaps of local guys you could tag along with to gain experience down that way

Is there going to be a training day in or near Christchurch anytime soon?

Not too sure, but keep your eye out for upcoming trips down there, there seems to be something going on most weekends, its a good way to learn knowing there are more experienced drivers to give tips/advice
