Hello from a new owner

Post by ActyonMan »

Hello All,

I have recently bought a new Ssangyong Actyon Sports 4WD Double Cab. (You can view the specs etc at http://www.ssangyong.co.nz/actyonsports.html) The Actyon Sports represented much better value for my money than other double cabs on the market. ( :) Don't flame me too much :) )

It has a 2.0 L common rail turbo diesel. The spec's qoute 104 kw @ 4,000 rpm and 310 Nm @ 1,800-2,750 rpm. The motor is a Mercedes-Benz design and has MB components. It has a very spacious comfortable cabin and therefore a slightly smaller tray. The family appreciate that balance.

The Actyon Sports utility won the AMI Insurance/NZ Autocar Ute of the Year for 2006.

I've seen at least one other Ssangyong owner on the forum - how many others are lurking out there?

Once I figure out how to post pictures I'll show you what it looks like.

As I am new to 4WD driving, can anyone recommend 4WD training courses or trainers in the Christchurch or Mid/Central Canterbury area? (I live around the corner from Burnham Camp.)

Once I have the vehicle run in I'll be interested in the training and then some easy 4WD driving - don't want to scratch or dent the new ute too soon.

Thanks in advance

Actyon Man.

Welcome onboard.

Here is a "how to" for posting photos.

Just keep in mind that ORE is not hosting new photos for the timebeing, so you will have to use something like Flikr or Photobucket. I use Photobucket and it works fine.

Thanks for the tips on posting photo's. There was another post in that forum that was even more helpful.

Photobucket was a great suggestion - it even generated the image links. The photo's below let you see what the Actyon Sports looks like. The colour is "cyber grey." In some lights it looks black, or blue, or dark grey.

The Ssangyong Actyon & Actyon Sports are often said to have a shark like front grin. The 2008 Actyon Sports now has its own shark fin on its roof  It is actually a plastic fairing for the radio antenna.

The styling grows on you. When I first saw an Actyon Sports I didn't like the styling. 18 months later I've bought one.

I've created a monster!!! You were keen about sharing your pride and joy :D

Looks good, a bit too clean but that can be fixed. Have you taken it off-road much?

I wouldn't describe myself as a monster - though you may & have

It hasn't been off road (unless my unsealed driveway counts as off road) as it is still being run it.
Ive only had it two weeks, It has only 700km on the clock, hence the clean & shiny look.

That's why I'd like to suss out some 4WD training with the aim of doing some recreational 4WD driving once it's run in. I'd problably only take it on easy club runs not full blown bush bashing as I have to use it as my ordinary wheels as well.

Hey, it was a pun towards your comment about shark lookalike front end

I am sure other Canterbury off-roader would guide you in the right direction with training / tag alongs.

My sweetie and I have just come back from two weeks in central canty, and north otago. had a GREAT time.
found some easy non scratchy trips you may like.
The dry river beds of Pukaki, Waitaki in the Ohau area. The hydro development area.
Thompson's Gorge road.
Molesworth Station and
Rainbow Road (up to St Arnauds).

What problems are you going to have putting larger diameter tyres on your waggin? Will 32" fit under the guards? Not for any other reason than to give you highr ground clearance. I found THAT to be a must for mine, but having said THAT, we did this last trip on the original road tyres that have now done 60,000K

Welcome aboard and congrats on you new truck.

An option with the Actyon Sports in 18" rims. Mine has 16" mag wheels as standard.

I may look for a set of 18" steel rims that will fit and then fit a more off-road set of tyres on those so that I will have a "shiny" set of wheels for on-road use & a separate set of off road wheels.

FIrst I will get recovery hooks fitted and a replace the factory plastic bash plate.
Any suggestions where I would go in Christchurch to get recovery hooks fitted?
