bellhousing

The bellhousing for the supra w58 does that have it stamped on the side, just to make sure that it is right one and not a w55 or w56 :D

There was a celica with a 5mgeu in the buy-sell this weekend, was getting wrecked, it'll have the right bellhousing (W58) FOR SURE, give him a ring, buy the whole gearbox complete, keep the bellhousing, thrust bearing carrier, and clutchfork, then sell the w58 box on trade-me, you'll still get 250-300 for the box and you're left with all you need. (if you already have a flywheel)
I went down this path just over a year ago, oh and I still have a grin from ear to ear whenever I drive it, something that doesn't happen till you repower

I've been through this with mine here's what I've done

The flywheel off a Hiace van will fit apart from one bolt hole, all I've done is machine out the hole to fit and made a small cresant shaped filler that sits in Mike (SupraSurf) put me onto that one cost $20 including clutch

Bellhousing I've managed to track down a Supra nut who has spare bellhousings :D but... he knows how rear they are and he said $450   to much for me! (if you want I'll track his number down) my option was to make my bellhousing
found an auto bellhousing for a 7m ($20) and used the lux one for the other end (free :D )
Stripped the gearbox (needed a survice) stuck the input shaft from the box into the front housing, use this as a guide to line everything up .... cut the two bellhousings so they will sit with a couple of mm extra spacing (your lux one is the correct spacing think its 194mm face to face) and machined the mateing faces (to keep everything even) could do this with a grinder and file if you don't have access to a mill
Had the motor out so tipped it on its end put the flywheel and clutch and motor half of bellhousing on, put the gearbox half onto gearbox and use the input shaft to line it all up and weld then when finished machine both sides to parrallel .... hmmm only took me the better part of 10hrs to do oh and cost not including labor $120, ($20 for auto housing and $80 worth of gas for the welder and $20 for rod etc) its a work of art 8) :? but every time I drop the clutch I'll be wondering just how strong is it :? wish I'd bought one instead

Cheers Reece
Ps let me know if you want the number

good work!!
I can appreciate the amount of work that went into that little project as I looked at doing it myself when I was looking for a bellhousing.
They are still out there especially around rural areas, I put a wanted to buy add in the buy sell week after week, eventually found a bellhousing at the Timaru wrecker and he charged me $200, as murphy would have it a young guy phoned me the next day and saind he had a whole car (manual with 5mg-eu) with a bent chassis and wanted $400, so I went round and bought that as well!!, did a deal with Mike (he did my wiring and Gareth did my eng mounts)
everyone was happy,
they are out there perservere with the buy sell or if you're in a hurry this sounds like a way out
:P

I've been investigating too, just out of interest (I already have my 5m/7m belhousing  ) and I have tracked down a guy who will cast up some but a minimum order of 4 and fully finished, ready to bolt in are gonna be......wait for it.....................................$800 each!!!
But in the future they might be the only option left as all the good ones get swallowed up.
Might have to look at adapting the auto belhousing......

I also have to say at this point, it is starting to get a LOT cheaper for a manual Commodore 3.6 v6 than it was 14 odd months ago when I did my hilux, if I was doing it again I would look in this direction due to the availability of conversion kits.
Having said that, the Supra straight 6 is best bang for your buck, if you can find the bellhousing at the right price!!
At $800 each I would put in the V6

hey Jafa have a word with Mike (Suprasurf) they had a guy down that way who had made an addapter plate to use the auto bellhousing as its narrower than the manual
Then all you need to do is sort the clutch fork.... a bit less welding   I'll have to sort the cammera and post a pic of mine  you won't beleive the amount of work it took!

Oh and thanks for the shackles Steve dropped them off today
