A few of us are in the early planning stage of organizing a club class only comp .It is going to be aimed at introducing people to winch challenges. It will be a one day event in Auckland at the Extreme park prob in early May ,It will not be a speed event there will be compulsory winching in some stages ,it will be a fun layed back event ,If you have competed in a winch challenge before you cant enter but your help in marshalling would be great .WE will be finalizing the details over the next 7/10 days and will keep youn posted...Cheers

Does that mean the tracks will be somewhat tamer than a winch comp? Would it be suitable for someone completely new to winching or is some experience required?

Sorry know your still only in planning stage.

I will be helping monstr set up the comp. I think a bit of winching knowledge would help but not neccessary. Will be using standed winch comp rules as far as points and penalties go. We have a venue and a date in mind just have to sort out marshals and exta help, will let you know more details as we sort them out. But the more intrest we get the better the comp will be. Look forward to seeing a comp from the other side :D

If I not ready to have a go, I'll be more than happy to help as a marshall.

Thr whole idea is to have a relaxed comp we will be running the standard set of rules ,experence in this type of event is not nessasary most of it comes down to common sense. And yes the tracks will be easyier as we are aiming at the first timer with a reasonably set up club truck ,We will be quite hard on anything to do with saftey, but even though there will be winners and loosers this event is being organized to bring together a group of like minded people and having a bloody good fun day...Cheers

Sounds like a great idea to me. I hope to have the Rangie ready by then. If not I will probably be available to marshall.

Any rules to be aware of?

Cheers Muddymatt

Right, I could possibly be a starter. My truck is more than capable, I'm more worried about the loose nut behind the wheel

Better go test my winch somewhere - not even sure if it works

I have no ground anchor and I assume others who are looking at giving this a go wouldn't either. My request would be there are winching points available where likely required & if possible one path for the road legal trucks (tamer) and another for the non-road legal (tougher). Just my 2c.

good point, are we going to need a ground anchor ?

dont know about the extra tame bits for the road vehicles.... i think the guys organising it will have a good plan in mind and whatever it is i think its a bloody good idea for a good fun day(s) out

scruitineering ? sat morning ? comp satday day and night stage ? BBQ and a few bevvys later sat night ? sunday morning stages then results ?

or just a few stages satday then results ? then bevvys and BBQ for results then more bevvys and pass out to get some rest then head home sunday arvo...

just throwing ideas out there cos im amped allready

Just to point you guys in the right direction the planned date is Sunday 11th May We will be running normal winch challenge rules regarding safety apart from you will not require a roll cage unless your in a soft or open top truck then you will need a 4 point you will need a helmet for the driver and co driver and seat belts .You wont need ground anchors (were going to be kind to coe"s) The full details will be posted by the end of the week ..Steve
The full winch challenge rules are avaible as a down load from the 4x4 challenges web site

You might want to find a trailer too if your looking at taking your truck that far away..... makes it much easier to get it home again if something goes wrong

Sorry about that guys, but adding to my last post...

One of the other reasons to hold it on a sunday is the extreme park can be a very unforgiving place if it is wet! By holding it on sunday it gives us saturday to re-set stages if it is wet, and being the event director if turns to shit, my ass is on the line and i want to make sure everyone goes home in one piece.
