Gents
My temp guage is lazy, rises only a little unlee really hot then it would get to about one quater of the scale at best.
It's been suggested to me that I remove the sensor from the block and give this a thorough clean.
Thoughts, comments, suggestions and where abouts is this sensor hidden? :=)
Cheers & thanks
Chris

1ST thing to do would be to put a new thermostat in it and then look and see what it does. Sounds like an old thermostat that is not closing properly and taking ages to warm up.
Cheap and easy if that is what it is.

I actually purchased a new thermostat but didn't install it after popping the existing one into hot water - it appeared to open and close ok - mind you I didn't have a thermostat I could use to test the water.

test the gauge by pulling off the wire at the sensor and touching it to an earth on the vehicle. Gauge should go full scale. If not, its poked. I once replaced a couple of sensors and thermostats only to find the gauge was mostly poked.

Hmmmm the sender has been replaced but alas the gauge remains lazy. A friend applied an ohms meter to it and said that the gauge was asking for a very large number of ohms thus the reason it wasn't responding. He turned the dial and at 32ohms the needle on the gauge rose sweetly to a position some where about where it might reasonably be expected to be.
Folks the hunt is on for a replacement temp gauge - should you have one that is in good nick and would be prepared to part with it for a modest return plus cartage I would be really keen to hear from you.

I would be looking at fitting a new aftermarket unit, not a secondhand factory one. With a new unit you should get a more reliable reading from it. and gauge and sender are properly matched to each other so the reading will be truer.

Sounds like good advice
