Welcome,
My recommendation would be to get in touch with your local 4WD club - this site will have links to several. They will have already gone through the access excercise and have regular play areas lined up - they are also likely to have a local terrano owner in there somewhere.
Its also nice to have someone on hand to get you out of trouble....
good luck

Check out the Forum here. heaps of good info and tips on pathfinders. Lots of it is in USA though. also some good links to places for parts and upgrades, have to be carefull of the left to right hand drive thing, most fo the steering components don't cross over.
Cheers,
Beano.

terrano's
you can't go wrong with a terrano. Is it deisel or petrol. I have a V6 1994. Running on 31x10.5x15 Pirelli MT's and have changed the suspension over to Old Man Emu's. All my mates have extreme tuff-trucks with Diff locks, on 33" etc, etc but it doesn't make up for good driving ability. I go everywhere they go and then some. Westcoast tracks are steep and muddy, but fun. Canterbury rivers will test your skill and idiot factor. If you live near CHCH maybe we can organise a trip somwhere. I am off to the Waitahu on the 23 and 24 September (westcoast) if your interested.

4wd Books
There are a set of books made for both the North and South islands (depending where you are living). There are two North Island ones, 1 is a touring book which is just all metal roads etc (easy stuff, thats the green one). And then there is one with more tough tracks (thats the blue one). The North Island ones are written by Andy Cockroft and they explain the tracks, what you should expect, and how many 4wds you should have etc. Sometimes he over exaturates a bit but the books are very good for finding tracks to have a look at.
There is also a South Island set but I don't have those so don't really know about them they are written by Ken Sibly I think.
They are deffinetly worth a look.
They are avalible from most book shops I think, Whitcalls, Paper Plus etc
Hope its of some help

Their are two South Island ones, Ideally you need both to be able to plan a good few days worth of trips... they are Red and Blue...
Paper Plus Generally have the Red on in stock, if not the isbn is 1-877251-06-2 . The blue book is currently out of print and I bought the last one in the country
the lovely girls at Paper Plus contacted all the PP's around the country and found one on the north island
