im going to have a look at a terrano on the weekend, 2.7 diesel manual, 3 door.
300000 kms, so well and truly run in.... had rust repairs in rear so no back seat? supposedly common in these?
so obviously i will be looking for rust, what else goes wrong on these?
seller wants $1500ono

looking for it as just a cheap 4wd for winter while i save a bit more for something halfway decent, so what are they like offroad? easy to fit decent size mud tyres?

no idea, he just said the seat had been removed because of a rust repair....

hes from motueka so who knows lol

they usaly rust out around the seam through the middle of the wagon under the rear seats and around the seat belt mounting points if my memory serves me rite if rear seat is removed along with seat belts it will still get a wof as long as it has been repaired

Im on my 3rd TD2.7 now and to date the only probs ive had is just general maintaince of the 4x4 as for ks per liter in getting 100ks for 8.6 liters of fuel ie inglewood to te kuiti for just over $20.oo so im happy with them

Hi, I have a 95 model and can tell you they go just fine.
Appart from the rust problem in some of the earlier models there is no real issues to watch out for. Extending the rear diff breather is a must, as is replacing the diff, trans, engine and transfer oils. At least you will soon see if there was water in the diffs when you replace the oils.
You only need to watch the steering linkages in the front as they are prone to wearing when the torsion bars have been tweaked, but as long as you are aware of this and keep an eye on things there should be no hassles.
There are several ways around the weak steering system, one is an option being looked at by an engineering chap on here. The other is using a draglink from a Navara 2WD model and swapping it over but there is some minor engineering required here.
I also have a third much simpler option that I will be tackling soon so keep an eye out on the forums.

As for daily driving, just remember its not a sports car. They are a little underpowerd on the road, well mine seems to be seeing as its an auto, but is just fine off road. They are quite a good towing vehicle too, and a very comfy driver for passengers as well.

sweet, i think its only ever been used as a road car so all good

right, had a look, for $1500 its about what you would expect, plenty of rust repairs done, another needs to be done beteen rear bumper and rear door.

im guessing tyres any bigger than 31inch would be too much for the archaic looking 2.7 thats in there? how easy is it to lift them a bit? looks like theres not much clearance either....

31" tyres are about the standard and are quite suited to the Terrano.

Lifting is a breeze too, suspension just requires heavier springs in the rear, longer travel shocks and winding of the torsion bars.
A body lift is a little more complex, but still easy enough to do in an afternoon with a cou[ple of mates.

There is a nicely set up SWB 3B Cruiser on Bateup Rd in Richmond for sale. had a front locker and other extras, can't remember too many details right now.

is that the red one? bit of a lift as well? if it is then they want 6.5K for it... little rich for me, but yeah looks like a well set up truck. its normally parked in the 'caryard' on salisbury road in the weekends... im just looking for something to have some fun with at the mo, nothing serious. the ute is soaking up most of my money at the moment.

I have done many of these and if the rust is repaired by just patching, it doesnt need to be certified.
the rear seat and belts need to be removed though(reason for your seats removed)
they only certify the repairs if an aftermarket floor section is used!!

for your 31s you can get 2inch lift king springs for the rear and wind the torsions up at the front to
have no rubbing with 31s, thats what i did to mine
