Re: Suzuki Xtreme Cup 2008
can i ask what is the criteria for the invitation is and who is doing the selecting. cheers
Re: Suzuki Xtreme 4WD Cup 2008
more info please, what type of comp is it? how are you involving the international competitors? what are the dates so competitors can plan? where are the events - north/south? whats the guts dude????
Re: Suzuki Xtreme 4WD Cup 2008
I have heard there may be good money to be won as well as a car up for grabs? is this correct? And is it the top 30 trucks as rumor has it? Selection must be immediate really as we the competitors need to plan ahead, as the off season is the time we do maintenance. If we get no warning the top trucks will not have had enough time to get organised and it will not be a true selection. Also do the invited have to compete in all 3 rounds or can they drop one?

Re: Suzuki Xtreme 4WD Cup 2008
Because this is invitation only, I bet they will only invite 1 or 2 from down south.
This new member hasn't even had the decency to reply to the few that have asked questions and if you go to thier website you will find that its out of date and not overly user friendly.
You have to wonder why the majority of 200 competitors voted no confidence in the company that films the events.
I believe (but may be wrong) that this event is only being run because they ahve a contract with TV to produce a certain amount of shows and they fell short. It may be a rumour, coz rumours run rampant in the sport of trialing.
Back to the southern folk. this coming national season has been extended from 6 rounds to 9 to include 3 down south, but from what I've heard, they can only come up with about 10 trucks that will enter, but again this may only be hearsay.
Its great for the sport that the telly is showing it, but it has just been anever ending debate on wether they are showing the right stuff or not etc etc etc
just check out the chat going on here.......................

I'll let you all decide whats going on, coz I've heard enough rumours for now. I think I'll just wait and see what happens now.

We can see everyone is very Xited about the Suzuki Xtreme 4WD Cup 2008. More details will be posted in national media and here as the media drive towards race-day progress.
Just a reminder that Suzuki Xtreme as a program is only the broadcast partner to this cup. If you are an Invited Driver you will be contacted by the Organisers which include the hosting 4x4 clubs. All of which will be announced shortly.
Don't forget Suzuki Xtreme will be broadcasting all major South and North Island National Off-road Racing, Winch Challenges and Quadbike Events for this year, so keep an eye on http://www.suzukixtreme.tv and TV3 also Sky Sport 3.

Does that include the Nat series and Lauri Sanson trials?

They aren't sexy enough and the viewers are too thick to appreciate what is happening - viewers are believed to need to be feed short sound bites and a leader board in real time. Also a great wad of cash - I personally couldn't see any value to our 4wd clubs by chasing the sponsorship needed to film and I certainly wasn't willing to push for re-arrangement of the format to accommodate a crash and bash expectation. So sorry no broadcast of the Laurie Sanson trials

Re: Suzuki Xtreme 4WD Cup 2008
Sweet.
At least the format will continue as it always has then without outside interferience. Not to mention no embarrasing yourself in front of the 4X4 nation as a newbie.
I can sense a little bit of a story lurking in the background here somewhere. Maybe the details will surface oneday when things have... "settled".

Hands up - who would be interested in a first class - inter club mud drag event - that is 2 side by side timed knarly, muddy, boggy, tree'd 600m loop tracks - that you alternate and times added together?
Just the sort of event Suzuki Xtreme would love to film

As long as potential competitors put in some effort getting sponsors - rather than the usual of leaving it the organizers

There's a small fire smouldering already from the last season's series, and with some of the personalities involved that's not surprising. In case it slipped your notice, a large number of competitors are very suspicious of 4WD cup motives and they may have legitimate concerns which need to be addressed properly. To come in here and post the above "newsflash" then "walk away" has the potential effect of tossing a half full 20L plastic petrol can on top of that small fire. You obviously don't have the answers people in here have asked for and I actually doubt if you even understand the questions. Please leave the promotion of the event, at least within the competitive fraternity, to the actual club organisers. I am not one of them, but felt the need for someone to point this out.

that is not a question for suzuki xtreme i would think
more to do with 4x4challenges or who is running the event to organize
as Mainland Winch Challenges did for the south.

Thats not what is being asked. He is asking if they have footage where has it come from as they did not have permission to film, and if they don't have footage they then should not be making claims that are clearly untrue
Re: Suzuki Xtreme 4WD Cup 2008
i still don,t understand what the fuss is about, and the promblem people have with the coverage?
this is a totally honest question, is it because i guess the xtremme guys are making a profit from it, that people and clubs want a share?
is it the roll over stuff? painting the sport in maybe the wrong way.
don,t jump down my throat, pm me if u like, i,m only trying to understand............

Re: Suzuki Xtreme 4WD Cup 2008
Its not a matter of money.
I do know that the episode of last years event showed a poor knowledge of the type of event and the presenters clearly did not know what happenning or why while trying to describe what was being shown. This to me says the producers of the progamme did not do their job properly (its not me having a go at the poor old presenters).
You can do that for the first year till you learn the ropes, but they have been doing it for a few years now and they make the same mistakes.
The 2008 event will be shown on 4WDTV.
Please note that this is purely my opinion and not that of the norwest club who runs the AC diggers event.

i really still don,t get it, its a amateur sport. footage to me is no worse then what i,ve seen from other local sport
mx, supercross, some local rugby etc etc.
sometimes old phil dark makes glaring mistakes at jet sprints, mx or whatever, (cause he seems to be on everything)
but hey this is Nz, and this is a fringe sport?

tpft,
xtreme tv stated that they are broadcasting
. Diffsx2 comment refers to the fact that no-one from Suzuki Xtreme attended the Norwest OHV Winch Challenge back in March. As the Norwest event is a major North Island comp, then xtreme tv's statement is either untrue, or they have obtained footage from other sources (the legalities of which may be questionable).all major South and North Island National Off-road Racing, Winch Challenges and Quadbike Events for this year
Re: Suzuki Xtreme 4WD Cup 2008
ok,
so you,d rather not have it on tv? or u refer to legalities.......which means waivers/money for the club(s) involved?
i mean at the recent kaimai round, the camera guys fairly stood out, so if they were at the event, be obvoius i guess?
or the broad statement "all major winch challanges" means just not that one?

Re: Suzuki Xtreme 4WD Cup 2008
I read that as Extreme TV saying that only the events that they cover, by definition are major events. That is not a comment on what is or is not a major event.
My question to ExtremeTV is, are you are real person with a real interest in 4wding or are you just some mindless bot, human or otherwise that is trying to advertise for free through this forum. My reason for asking is that it appears (to me anyway) that all you do is cut and paste from some other source.
If it was genuine then i would expect some thing along the lines of 'Hi my name in Jono/bob/mary and I work for Extreme TV and thought you guys and girls might be interested in this......'

I think this is a bit rough Bubba? Others more regular to the forum might know who you (or anyone else on here for that matter) are but I sure can't tell from your signature? Why should they say who they are to an audience who chooses to operate behind their own BOT names? I'm not defending what they're doing in here and I've already made that plain.
the real problem with TV coverage of winch challenges is that the crew need to accumulate at least 24 hours of video to try and find enough to keep the audience awake for a 30 minute show. That's not to say winch challenges are boring in any way, its just that to get the action the punters want the cost is very high compared to trials. Don't ask me how I know this, let's just say I'm interested and so I watch and learn.
Here's my name, just to be fair: Gordon Burnside - I own BRAND-X - a major sponsor in the past of the TV coverage - and I'm also President of the Mt Egmont 4WD club and Vice President of the CZ- At least until this Saturday's AGM where I'll probably be chucked out with the cold tea. None of my comments are in any way reflected or endorsed by any of the organisations I represent.
Re: Suzuki Xtreme 4WD Cup 2008
I didn't mean for it to cause offense, but this person has stirred up a shit storm and then stood back and doesn't bother to reply or answer questions. Now I don't pretend to have a side in this debate or even fully understand it and I do enjoy watching it on TV, I'm just trying to work out from where this person is coming from.
Oh, and when you said that you owned brand X, I thought you were just giving an example, until I clicked the little world link thingi. I have to give you your due credit for sponsoring the events/show, I am a fan and enjoy watching it (so many thanks to all the sponsors that make that possible). But I am going to stick to my guns about that particular person, by all means get on here and give us your wisdom, your experiences, your likes and dislikes but don't just paste something from a unknown source and walk away.
Sorry to take this thread away on a tangent, I will go back inside my cave now

Re: Suzuki Xtreme 4WD Cup 2008
I think if you trawl back through the thread you will see that someone (me) has advised them to pretty much bugger off and mind their own business, to leave discussion of this subject, on here at least, to those within the 4x4 fraternity.
Note that fraternity means "brotherhood". I think we all realise they (the TV people) know very little about the sport, how it works and how we all work within it but that's not a crime. It is actually quite common in any sport but they do know their cameras and viewers well. We need to work with them, any TV people for that matter, for the betterment of the sport - but only if the majority of us see TV's involvement as a betterment.
It would appear at the moment the majority of us don't want to work with them in the way that TV show would like so there's a spin off competition organised just for TV. A hasty backlash that is not thought through (by our fraternity) could permanently destroy any possibility of a long term relationship between the mainstream 4x4 competition and ALL TV production companies.
The competitors as a body have elected their comittee and let's see what they can do, if anything. There's always another year and another comittee.
