Terrano oil pump TD27

My terrano oil light takes a few seconds to go off when the engine hasn't been run for a few hours, and if you shut it down to go some where for 5 minutes, it goes off quickly like it should. A bloke I know thinks it could be a non return valve sticking (he says there are two) allowing the oil to drain out of the pickup to the oil pump. Anyone got any ideas, I changed the oil and filter and it didn't make a difference. I dont have an engine workshop manual which doesn't help. Idealy I'd like to replace the two non return valves & recon the oil pump. Can anyone help? Mine is a 1993 TD27 Y-LBYD21.
Also my fuel light doesn't work & no bulb is fitted, anyone know if these are not fitted in 1993 pre-facelift models, or how to hook one up.

normal, it takes a bit to pump oil up around the system before it builds pressure. if it was taking 20 seconds or more then start to worry.

Yep ,Normal, well worn engines sometimes take a few seconds to get full oil pressure, plus the oil is cold as well so things are slower. Hot starts will be different , warm engine and oil still sitting around the engine, you will get oil pressure faster. Always a good idea not to rev engines on start up due to low oil pressure/lubrication. on modern cat engines , you have 5-7 sec throttle delay even on a hot start to allow oil pressure to build/settle
