Ok, i bought a patrol, with factory rear locker, and after a wee play in some mud today i dont think its working. well, i know its not lol.
couple of questions...
the wee switch on the dash that turns it on and off, is that all you have to do to turn it on?
is there a light on the dash that tells you its on?
and if its bung, (which i would say it is) what do i check? is there any simple things that go wrong with them? or can it be expensive.... i have my fingers crossed the switch is bung, not the locker... or something else easily fixed....

In the engine bay passenger side up on the firewall are two solenoids. Pull the hoses off that runn down to the chassis and make sure one solenoid has vacuum when the switch is off and then check the other has vacuum when the switch is turned on. If there is no vacuum when switched on then your problem is the solenoids.
You can also swap the hoses over then the locker should engage then swap them back to disengage. If it engages it will eliminate the diff being the problem.
There is usually a light on the dash which shows when it is engaged. There is another thread which points you in the direction of replacement solenoids.
If it still doesnt engage then you may have problems internally with the dog teeth being worn.

Re: Patrol factory rear locker noob question....
The old factory locker in my truck wouldnt ingage/dissengage unless the truck was doing about 10 kph also..

They are set at factory to only engage at up to 10km/hr, there is a screw in the dash that, if removed disables it, but not a good idea

i might try that too, i only tried it at a standstill.

Drive forward slowley and turn, they only engage in two dog teeth so most the time you will need to be moving a little for them to engage.

Re: Patrol factory rear locker noob question....
Do as doddzee suggested, by driving foward and turning side to side.
I checked mine by getting the truck crossaxled in 2wd, and with the rear wheel spinning slowly, I would engage the locker.

Re: Patrol factory rear locker noob question....
You could just put the rear up on some axle stands, start it up, engage rear wheel drive and flick the locker in and out. I have replaced all my solenoids and also have rebuilt the dog gears in diff. Just fixed an electrical problem I had with the lite. If you need any advice on it just ask, I know them inside out literally. Sometimes the rubber diaphragm down at the diff gets stiff and this can delay the locking and unlocking as it takes more vacuum to go on and off, fixable though.
