Anzac weekend

Unfortunately for me I am on call this weekend so cant go out wheeling at all, but took this oportunity to get some work done on my truck, Cut the rust out of the front passenger door

And had my first ever go at bogging up some holes

First attempt I think i applied it a bit too thick and without enough pressure, because when i sanded it back it had some air holes in it but it filled up most of the holes, so threw another layer on and it sanded back nice, primed it with sandable primer gave it another sand and prime then painted it with a dark Grey metallic that doesn't quite match the original colour but is close enough and will be easily hidden with a bit of mud and some scratches.

Didn't come up too bad for an amateur, Also refitted my tow bar that has been modified so that it sits at the right hight instead of above knee hight

and is now removable, thanks to Towright down here in christchuch who did a great job.

Fill the inside of the door up with fisholene or something like that (the panel beaters on here will tell you what to do) to slow the rust down from popping back through again

I sprayed the inside of the door with zinc it to hold off the rust for a bit, i hope this will be adequate

If it's CRC zinc spray then no it wont.
Take the door panel off and get a decent oil spray and liberally apply it.
Matt.

I have been thinking of fitting an Battery Isolator to my truck but all the ones that I've seen have an open back.
This has always concerned me and I have thought about monuting one in some sort of plastic box to protect the terminals from being shorted out.
The operating flag hole looks like would allow all manner of mud and crap in that may stop it working when you really need it.
Any way that's the background because I found a new model that has a fully enclosed back, so I brought one, then I spent a couple of hours today fitting it ...
The way I have wired up is there is a fused feed from the battery side of the isolator that feeds the alarm and the live side of the stereo so that it does not forget its settings

As an upside you can remove the locking key if you are parked in the bush making it a lot harder to start and drive away.

My ankle has started to free up

, so I started to re-do the air lines for my lockers, next step, move the air tank out of the cabin and onto the chassis, then plumb it all up.

Well with the lovely wet weather we had today we headed up the Maungatapu track in Nelson today rather than hike up to the Porika track as planned.
I played around with the springs in the front of the surf yesterday to try get a bit better road handling, threw another leaf into the pack which raised the front about an inch and helped out on road no end. Found a few spots to try it out.

Went down to Rununga for the weekend and did a run with members from Rodney, Manukau and Taranaki. had an awsome time down there with some great guys and gals and great tracks. while it would have been nice to have a bit more mud the tracks still provided plenty of challenge. was rapped with how my truck went off the road. Unfortunatly it overheated on the way there and the way home

. will have to go over the cooling system as well before rally woods. Will be putting truck back in the shed this week for some more bar work, rebuild breaks and install front locker when it arrives from the states.

also saw a few of you guys (satalite and co) at the Stag Dinner in taupo on our way home on Sunday all of whom seemed to have been having a good time

Went to Reefton for the weekend with my club, did some good, but usual tracks. Got shown a new one though up the back country grade 5+. Can't wait for winter proper when all the ground is frozen, will have to lead a hard yaka trip in there with capable trucks and drivers with the "right stuff". Some panle damage but not to much. Two trucks ended up on there sides 1hr into the trip on day one. Never seen so many parts fall off a disco in one go.

Where did you get the isolator from? Looks just like the thing for my project.
Which spent I the weekend putting a new engine in and trailering it back from Taupo. Now I just have to get it going.
Damn that Electrikery

The main track was a bit messy in places but was drivable in 2wd on the way up, the side tracks and the pylon track where muddy as in places. It looked like a digger had been up recently and made a mess in places.
It was more fun than it has n=been for a long time that's for sure.
A Rav4 did drive past us at the bottom of the first hill next to the dam....
