V6 Escudo 3 door tyres

Post by Passtime »

Can a V6 3 door handle 31 inch tyres or will it struggle with gearing.
I have given it a 2 inch body lift and it has a 30mm Suspension lift. I don't know if it will hit the chassis on the inside. should have clearance up and down.

depends on the offset of the rims as to iff it will hit the chassis...
gearing is already too high so will make it worse... but i run 31's on my 1600 vitara and its ok... (well below average really)

Depends what you wnna do... mud it will be sweet, rock crawling and steep decents won't be fun.
manual vs auto makes a difference too...

I have a set of 245/75/16's(about 30.9") on stock rims for my 5 door v6 and although the ground clearance is good they do hit the chassis rails and give it the turning circle of a bus. they are 14% bigger than stock so the gearing is crap. I find it much more fun to drive with my little at's and it goes good. if I could turn back time I would buy 225 or 235/75 16. I have always wanted to improve the gearing through the diffs cause the big MT's look good but don't have the money for that anymore. Did a trip to Auckland once with them on and you end up needing 3rd grear for just about any hill so it was a long tiring trip.
Unless you have plans to improve the drivetrain or HP you may be better off staying small.

I have a mate with a 1600 with 30/9.5 and that seems find so that guts me even more.

Don't do it.... :(

Thanks Guys
I have 225/75/16 AT on it at the moment. just thought 31s might be a bit better. I'll just buy the same size Muds I think. Not many to choose from in 16inch. Does anyone know of any Goodyear MTR of this size around. They have stopped importing them into NZ

Hey Passtime: if yours is an auto you can put manual diff nuggets in and get close to 10% ratio reduction which makes the bigger tyres a real option.

If you already have a manual...........Bad luck!

Mine is a manual. I don't think I could push myself to have a Auto 4x4. Have driven one. Takes the fun out of it a bit, takes a bit more thinking to drive a manual, gear selection etc. I think I will just stay with the 30ish tyres. I will be buying some BFG's this week.
