hi i have a clicking noise (not broken cv) and i was told there might be a chip in one of the cv teeth. i have a spare cv (still in another samurai) and have never seen let alone replaced a cv before. its a 89 samurai, what sort of greese do i use when re-installing the cv? hope someone can shed some light on this. i have a workshop manual but that just confused me as all the pics are of the vitara. thanks

Hey
Not too sure about the clicking... is it related to wheel speed or engine speed? does it happen in 2wd with hubs locked? hubs unlocked? 4wd hubs locked? hubs unlocked? with someone else listening does it sound like its comming from the cv area? can you make the sound with jacking it up and turning wheel by hand?

Have you checked diff oil (unlikely but hey worth a try)

It will take a while but I would recommend downloading the factory service manual from here http://www.suzukiinfo.com/... Otherwise if you don't have broadband i could probably send a copy up to you...
Then just print off pages as you need them and it doesn't matter if they get dirty etc...

this is what the cv and axle looks like (with the hub and knuckle off (but from memory you don't need to remove the knuckle normally)

As for grease i normally use a waterproof highspeed wheel bearing one (think its designed for boat trailers) may be over the top but hey. its called extreme something or another in a black and red container... but any high speed wheel bearing grease would be ok.

If you are getting another cv/axle set just make sure it is widetrack or narrow track :)

hey clicking only happens when hubs are locked and in 4wd, there is a consistant clicking when going on full lock backwards but going forward its as if it does it when i feels like it. and its reletive to wheel speed(i think) if its in 2wd and the hubs are locked then it makes the clicking noise. was going to have a play around trying to fix the problem tomorrow and have bought some cv greese from repco it comes in satchets like enough to do 1 cv in each satchet. thanks

Don't suppose the tyres are just rubbing on something?
Will also need grease for wheel bearings
