Mini Rally Weekend Away
My wife (Jayne, She who must be obeyed) has decided that after I do the repower in the Jimny I will need some practice before I start the competition year. Yep I will not be going to the South Island this year. So she has decided that I should put on a mini rally.
Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 September 2008
A Weekend away
From The South Drive 15 minutes north of Whangarei towards Cape Rienga and turn right off SH1 at Whakapara just after the BP petrol station onto The Old Russell road. It is sign posted to Oakura. A further 15km past Oakura on the right hand side of the road, some maps will show Tutaematai which is where we meet. You should see a big "The Farm” sign out the front. If you have driven too far you will drive over two single lane bridges that are right next to each other.
Journey time from Whangarei is approx. 60 minutes.
From the North Take the car ferry from Opua to Okiato/Russell. ($10 per car/$1 person or cyclist. Runs every 10 minutes or so.)Drive towards Russell for 5kms and turn right onto the Russell/Whangarei road. (sign posted to Whangarei/Rawhiti) After 20 minutes or so you will come to a gravel road on your right signposted Kawakawa/Waikaire - DO NOT TAKE THIS ROAD! (lots of people have) 500mtrs further down the hill the road makes a sharp left turn and to the right is another gravel road signposted Forest reserve. If you like windy gravel roads and looking at kauri trees then take this road as it is about 10 minutes quicker than continuing on the tar seal road around the coast past Jack's Bay, Parekura Bay, Elliots Beach and Ngiotonga. Do not take the roads to Rawhiti or Bland Bay, just stay on the road to Whangarei. The Farm is on the left hand side heading south after two single lane bridges and has a big ¨The Farm¨ sign out the front.
Journey time from Russell or Opua is approx. 50 minutes.
The Plan
Meet around midday or earlier on Saturday, get unloaded then early afternoon go do the tracks and play.
Saturday night swap stories about how good I am, (Shouldn’t take long). Go to bed early, get a good nights sleep, arise early Sunday morning and go do some (approx 12) hazards. Get all finished around 2.00pm. A sausage sizzle will be available immediately after hazards are finished on Sunday while points are being tallied.
The winners can collect his/her Chocolate fish, then you can all go home.
For those that don’t 4 wheel there are a lot of other things you can do at this site.
Hazards
Will not be pegged for shiny vehicles, but rather more of a Pre Trials tougher Laurie Sanson type of hazard. I will be responsible for the pegging of them.
We are looking at 3 separate classes depending on numbers:
Super Modified – National class C &D
Modified – National class E & F
The Rest – everyone else.
The website to find out where the place is, the type of accommodation that is available, and the cost. http://thefarm.co.nz/frameset_home.htm. I have already booked the double room with ensuite. The woolshed is highly recommended.
The owner charges $20/vehicle per day but I’m sure that we can get it for $20 per vehicle plus the accommodation costs. You will need to make your own bookings for accommodation.
Note of importance: Bloody good AT’s are minimum tyre requirements. This place when dry and fine can be done on a powered skateboard, when wet the tracks can be winch material or really big horsepower which in the past has ended in tears.
I would like to know how many are interested so I have a rough idea of how many to expect, but you make your own arrangements for accommodation and meals etc. Check ‘The Farm’ web page for meal options. No MacD’s around the corner. This event will be notified to both Whangarei and Bay of Islands Clubs as well as here on the Forum.

Re: Mini Rally Weekend Away
Hmm seems like a good target date to get my buggy finished and back on the road. Not to far from home either. Light pencil for me at this stage. Will have to see If I can get the garage time to get buggy finished, and then get a pass
Any chance of just doing day 2. I know the night would be the fun bit but given I'm likely to be road crew for a team in the Dennys 4 dayer in October overnight passes are at a premium.
