LOTS of smoke at idle
LOTS of smoke at idle
went to dunedin yesterday from invers just for a day trip,middle of the main street my truck just starts spewing whitey bluey smoke out at idle! outta no where!i couldnt believe it, lights changed and drove to find somewhere to pull over and it stoped, then idling again it repeated itself!! i parked up amd checked water an oil and it all seems ok..?? what could this be?
had to get a mate to bring salavge trailer up and bring me home, i wasnt gunna drive it back.
its a 2lte.
any idea will be great.

what was the temp doing?
being a 2lte id be picking the common problem and saying you have head problems... weird that it only does it at idle though...

yea thats what im thinking too. it used more gas on the trip than it normally would too!

yea thats true might be sucking air? 2 yr ago i got it overhauled bcos of that new diesel hmm been thinking it could be a f**ked injector, burning excess diesel in the exhaust when idling as the excess diesel wont be getting burnt?
gunna take it to diesel shop an get them to check it out and probably just get them to fix it. while theyre at it they can do tappets, a noisey idler and injectors.

more i think bout it i dont think it will be the turbo as theyre pretty reliable and it doesnt add up to be that.
however after queens birthday ill pull the turbo out and overhaul it as it is getting abit noisier that it use to be. anyone know if i can buy a kit for the ct20?? seals and bearings etc? id rather not buy 2nd hand as it could be in the same state or worse.

noisy idler ?? hope idler hasn't stuffed out and cam or injection pump slipped a tooth.

if it poked i know of a 1kz that could be for sale in invers, it wont be cheap though but comes with 2 prado trans?

Its common knowledge that those engines are shithouse. Spending lots of small amounts on a engine can often be more of a hassle than the one off payment of a upgrade.
Think about the 400km you had your mate do for you the other day. It all adds up.
You could use your pump on the KZ swamper suggested to get rid of the efi jazz. More power reliably.

hmm turbos on its way out big time, injectors buggard, tappets need done bad and its a noisy aircon idler (thats alright).
But to get them to do it itll be $2500!!
For me to rekit the turbo (if i dont have to replace housing etc) will be $500, tappets as theyre the shim time could possibly be afew hours work and $15 per shim, for me to replace with overhauled injectors $380, for me to do idler would be the cost of the idler. so maybe $1200 at most?? to then later on go and crack the head!!
very tempting to do the lexus or commy v6, itd be a good experience i reckon.

i HAD the motor it went back as it was shagged and by the time the engine guy got me a minter it ws couple months down the track n lost interesr so i neva bothered getting it.
at the moment just gunna rekit the turbo. just tossing up whether or not i should do the injectors. $400 and unsure on the gains? would i get the money back in fuel effiency? any increase in (lack of) performance? im guessing i wouldnt. and it is a skanky diesel after all.
ohh and whats EGR? ive heard ya should remove it?what is this and whats th advantage of removing it?

now that cant be good if its leaking fuel itll be sucking air and not getting e anywhere is that right? please help i need tis piece of shit going before the thursday night!!!
im very tempted to get it going and trade it in!!! the amount of money ive put into it has been ridiculous over the last 2 years not including tires, lockers etc etc.

how bad is the hand pump leaking. i am pretty sure that the hand pump side will be high volume low pressure so it might not be sucking in too much air. and it is being pumped in not sucked in so it would more likely push fuel out rather than suck air in.

right its 1am ive had a ***t of a night, had all four injectors flowing fuel but this bitch still wouldnt start, i bleed the injectors, injector pump, had to put a large pipe on primer pump and pressurize the tank then suck fuel thru because the primer doesnt wanna do its job!! ive replaced the primer. it just doesnt wnna get fuel to it.
neone have any ideas? whats stoping it from going if i had fuel to all injectors?!
i dont have fuel there anymore it like ran out! i dont know why ive still got 1/4 of a tank left.
