sj410 steering box

Hey I have a sj410 and the steering seems a bit tight and when I went to get a warrent one of the things I failed on was an overtightened steering box, so I went and loosened the screw on the top of the box and fiddled around with it heaps and it seems to me no matter how far I go either way with the screw it doesnt change the stiffness of the steering.
I was wondering if anyone had any experience why this might be so, Is this "screw"the right thing to adjust the steering box it has a locking nut around it and also if it wasnt the steering box in the end if I was adjusting it correctly and it is straight forward what else could be making it stiff. Cheers
Another question off to the side the warrent sheet also said the king pings need replacing but once I had a look I cant see any since its a fixed front axle hmmm
any help would be appreciated.
Thanks guys
