Hi Lift and 4wd Bits

Post by fweddy »

Needing to get myself a Hi lift - One I had was loaned and has been returned too long ago that I should have another by now.

Does any one have one they are looking to sell?

Where is a good location to buy from? I've got stuff from 4wd Bits in Auck before and consider him reasonable and good to work with. Of course there is the cost of shipping but my father is up that way at the moment and could pick up on Sunday or Wed evening but 4wd Bits is unlikely to be open those times! Any one know him or if it possible to get items on a sunday or taken to a location that is suitable to pick up on sunday?

I'll contact him direct too.

Thanks in anticipation.
Sold my 1985, BJ74 MWB Landcruiser, rear locker, 33" MTs, snorkel, PTO winch, solid bars all round, spotties, AM CB etc.
Now just a 1994, 1kz Surf, pretty standard.

Thanks Kaney

Just checked them out and they are having a 85th birthday sale with them down to $89. That's the same as the one I was using and while I would recommend any one buying one to check the bolts are tight (had a number of bit fall off or come loose) it did the job well.

I'll go that way and get my other recover gear else where.

What length snatch straps do you guys mainly use the most. I've mainly used my 6mtr one which is now damaged. But have never had a 9mtr. Was thinking to replace the 6mtr and also add a 9mtr. Strap or rope better? Also needing/wanting a snatch block. Best place to buy is??

I have straps and ropes too, 9 meter snatch 5 meter snatch and a very long rope for river work and a 5 meter rope (far easier than a snatch pulled through a river).

Hosehusler (Tim) can make you up the ropes at any length you need. Oh and ropes take more room to store and make a little hole for the dog to sit in when barking at the water.

Just to update this:

Got me a hi lift at George Henry, happy with the deal.

Also got me some other items from 4WD Bits.
To give a bit of a reference for him he's good on price (esp when you can pick it up). He was good to work with as usual, also was no problem getting stuff on a sunday. My father was passing through and he got the items that I ordered for my self and a mate and this was his comment when I asked if he got it picked up ok:

"Yep no problem. Nice bloke!"

i always found them good to deal with as well, yes, the freight can make some things a bit dearer, but for me, given the hours i was doing, ie never having time to go anywhere, the luxury of having stuff sitting at my door when i got home from work made it all worth while.
