There'll be an A/R ratio on the exhaust turbine housing. They've got a big impact on when the turbo starts to spool.
My gut feeling is it's too big to give you the low end you're after. But the numbers will let us know.

I am suprrised I have not got more replys.

The reason;

I have a turbo manafold but unsure of what turbo to use, I have been susjested the T3/T4 and I can get one cheap

What I was hoping for was susjestions of what is the best after market turbo to use with out blowing the budget

If your manifold has a T3 flange, then find a T3 from a nissan RB20 or similar. Try to get one without a ceramic exhaust wheel.

I have heard that the RB20 would be ok ,Good low down power but runs out on high rev's, I dont think thats a worry

I would be interested in talking to someone who has that setup

I am a bit worried about the T3/T4 it's one big turbo with a 4" inlet and it's rated for cars to 450hp I am a worried that it will not spool up until high rev's, "This is the reason for this posting"

So I am interested in any more info on the RB20 set up

as above..if you can find the A/R ratio on the exhaust this would give you a better idea of how its suited to your engine.
what engine are you running? how many cc etc?
if its a give away price buy it get it bead blasted, sell it for more  then buy a turbo thats more suited to your engine.
you do need to be able to spool the turbo

Graham,
I asume the turbo is for yourTD42.
The A/R best suited for the TD42 Is .48 comp and .83 turbine.
If you do a search on http://www.Patrol4x4.com you will have more information than you will know what to do with.

Jase.

The RB25 may also be a larger T3 turbo if you want another option.

The exhaust A/R quoted above is too large for my liking.

More difficult to fit because the flange is different to the T3.
The smaller T25's are too small for your engine at full noise, if you don't go past 3500rpm often it'll work. The larger T25's sometimes have compressor trim which makes them unsuitable for a low revving diesel.
But the T28's which come on many nissans can be an excellent match.

zero shaft play have you put a DTI on it? they will be full floating bearings there should be play.

Unless it's siezed.
Some nissans had ball-bearing T25's, but I think only on the W11 avenirs with the SR20DET, The CA18DET engines had the journal bearing T25 and most other SR20DET's had T28's.

That'd make a good dyno queen, but you'll be missing a lot of low-end boost and drivability.
