The 3.0V6 is a trouble-motor... they don't really produce that much power but they do break - just trying to remember what goes wrong - think its heads they do, kind of expensive to fix as well.
The Supra swap is a goodie if you can find a bellhousing, but you possibly won't be able to.
The 22R doesn't produce much more than a 4Y, and uses just as much petrol.
Your best bet is to fit the 4Y for LPG - I ran mine on gas for a couple of years and it was pretty good. Still gutless, but half price to run.
If you want to spend money do a Lexus swap, if you want a cheap one do the Supra - or find a 2l 6-cyl Celica motor - they go in too... talk to tomsoffroad - Tom on here... hes running that one pretty successfully by the look of whats left of his truck

Hey Steve I have a surf with the 3.0l V6 motor in it and just in the last couple of days i have heard twice on here that these are prone to the heads going on them

Is there anything you can do to try and prevent this happening other than making sure the cooling system and good antifreeze etc is kept well maintained? Is it a very common problem?
Cheers
Sean

To be honest I've had very little to do with the V6 models... might pay to talk to someone like Toyota themselfs or MotorWorks... someone like that would probably have some more useful advice.

yeah its fitted with lpg, but something broke (as it always does) on the lpg and now it doesn't work, not sure what it was and i don't know of anywhere that fixes them on the north shore so i'm just running petrol now, when it was on lpg a 60 litre tank would only give me 260km, and thats just driving it normally, maybe i will just do some stuff to the 4y, any idea if there is a twin carb setup that will fit?? i think the whole thing is stuffed. hmmm money

Try shore performance (wairau Rd) for LPG tuning and repairs. Just had my chev sorted, was using 1litre for 3 kms (a tad on the high side) due to a poorly set up original install.

The 3l v6's tend to crack the passengers side head. They have this stupid cross over exhaust which runs around the rear of the motor from the drivers side to the passengers side manifold, it's then forced into the passengers manifold in the opposite direction to which that side is flowing.
I'd be willing to bet that a set of extractors and a decent exhaust (twin or single) would solve this problem. Don't know who would make the extractors though.
And yes the 2ltr Supra goes well. 7600rpm rev limiter and I constantly am bouncing off it.

I just had the catlytic converter removed from my V6 surf and the guy reckons it will help the engin run cooler with less back pressure affecting it. It also seems to rev a bit quicker and seems at this early stage a little bit better on gas.
I might look at getting a better silencer and straightening out the rear pipe a bit which the ehaust guy recommended. Mine has done 153,000km and still runs well so i guess anything i can do to keep that head cooler is an advantage??

SupraSurf (Mike) has an engineer lined up who can manufacture hybrid ones from half an auto housing and half a 2L diesel one... might be worth a look. Not sure on price, but I know there is one out there and running - haven't heard of any problems with it...
Oh - and whats with this "I want a man" bit eh?

First DG is hiding from teenage girls, now you want a man... this list has gone all kinky
I assume you want a 5-speed MANual?

The other option is to get an existing manual bellhousing and have an engineer copy it... theres a place in Auckland that makes bellhousings - can't remember the name tho - anyone??? I'm guessing its gonna be HUGE expensive tho - may as well go 3.8l V6
