Hi Scotty,
What sort of truck do you have?
and are you in club?
I suggest that you join a club as this is one of the best things you can do, for more tracks, safety, experience etc etc
Cheers

A couple of easier tracks for you to have a peek at are
1) Porangahau Beach
2) Pylon Track on the Rimutakas (if its still open)
But as always take a friend in another vehicle for many different reasons but primarily safety

Unfortunately Pylon track has been closed to vehicles
Go to a book shop and get a copy of Andy Cockroft's book "4WD North Island - 102 Off Road Adventures" Its a bloody good read. His other book, 4WD North Island - 91 back country adventures" is another good one, but is mostly plain old gravel roads, but can still get you to places you never new about. In the 1st book he covers 11 tracks in the Wairarapa/Wellington region. Some tracks are easy, others are what he discribes as "hard Yakka". You decide
I think the cost is around $30-$40 dollars per publication, but worth evey cent.
Good luck, lets us know how you get on.
Cheers.
