Will loosening the clamps on my leaf springs allow more flex?
Or will it compromise handling/ ride to the point of being unsafe?
Any other ideas on improving the ride of standard height springs appreciated?

opening up the clamps will allow more droop as the leaves are able to spread more.
WOF guys may pick up on it though.
Springs are supposed to be retained at all times.
I opened the clamps in the rear of my old surf and gained another 2 inches of droop from it.

Have a look at a set of good quality after market springs and see how they do there leaf retainers.

YOU WILL SOON GET THE IDEA,

I have OME on the back of the hilux.

I have removed the clamps completely from the rear of the springs and the top leaf moves about 30mm sideways allowing the spring to flex a lot more. It has been like this for 10 years and have had no problems and has never been questioned for WOF or Certifications.
