Skid, the track used for that filming was not the Maratoto trails. It is a route that the NZFWDA northern zone had identified as being in a poor state and as it falls on both a legal road and DOC lands, it has the strong potential of being closed by the relevant authorities for environmental reasons. The NZFWDA northern zone clubs had agreed earlier in 2008 that there would be a voluntary winter closure of that area and to look at future ways of mitigating the problems with mud getting into waterways.

It appears that there may be a question on the legality of filming commercially on DOC land without a concession agreement.

The film company know that a concession is needed. DOC did not issue a permit to my knowledge.
