Suspension

Post by southland_Feroza »

Hi I want to do some work on my rear suspension on my 1990 feroza. I've replaced the shocks with a set of hilus shocks and am making spacers for my bumpstops but i dont know whether i should get longer shackles, new Springs or get my springs reset. What would be the cheapest, best and most effective mod to do?? Any advice would be appreciated.

hey there ... i started out by adding hilux rear springs in the back of mine but found that my ride was pretty harsh and choppy, i ended up taking them out and getting the original ones reset with an extra 2 inches of lift. these kept the factory ride and gave me a little extra lift. cost me $75 per spring at a local engineering firm,

longer shackles will help with articulation but wont give you much in the way of lift my 2 inch longer ones gave me about 1/2 inch of lift, did help with axle articulation heaps tho, i have about twice as much suspension travel in the rear of mine as i do in the front due to the IFS :( oh if you extend your shackles by 2 inches make sure they have a central bar between the plates otherwise they will slop around too much and makes cornering "interesting"

rule of thumb for extended shackles is
lift = half the length of the shackle or just under
i put 3'' shackles in my offroader and got about 1 1/2'' lift and heaps of travel.
im thinking of moving the mount where it hits the chassis forward slightly which will decrease the lift but give more droop at full stretch.

with my daily driver i just reset the springs and got the front torsion bars cranked to level it out and threw hilux shocks in the rear never had to worry about bump stops or anything like that.

when putting shackles on in the rear do you need to put longer shocks on? and do you need to put shackles on the front and back of the leaf?

doing the shackles you are only replacing the origional ones the fez only has them on the rear of the leafs. as for shocks a set of hilux lenght ones are plenty long enough for the amount that you would be lifting it
