bridle path

ok i was up at the gondela the other day on a break down and seen a couple of 4wds going up the bridle path is it open to the public 4wds now or did they just go up anyway just couse theres no gate

In theory the bridle path is a legal road - however - you have t be a total f#$k head to drive it and encourage the CCC to close it off.

thats what i thort after the ccc spent f**ken heaps puting draneg in to have it all wrecked

i drove up it a couple of years ago not to bad, steep in a few places with a two wheel drive ute just a bouns when i worked for the ccc

I think its a paper road & as such cant be gated

road has different status either side of the summit, 'cos of the old council structure with Lyttelton and Christchurch. I believe the Lyttelton side is not a road and there are plans to remove the road status on the Chch side for heritage reasons. I drove it for work ~12mths ago, but we obtained approval from the Park Rangers prior.

It is - you would still be a f$%k head to drive an icon walking track without permission

Roads status doesn't depend upon local councils - they are covered by the local Bodies Act that councils have to comply with.
