toy front cv's

Post by Rotazuk »

Hi
Want to split the cv's of the front of my toy hi lux axles to give them a good clean out ( been sitting around for a few years ) . Can you split them ? If so do you have to drop them off the axle first ? How do you do that ?
Give me a suzuki axle so much easier .

yes you can split them, but the clip that keeps them on the axel will break so you will need to invest in new clips... shouldnt break the bank.

best way to split the CV off the axel is a long piece of pipe(longer than the axel) slid over the axel and up to the cv(the right size pipe of course) and drop it on a piece of wood pipe first with the cv at the top, this should drive the cv off the top of the axel and drop the axel on the wood... wood so as not to damage the end of your axel....probably need to give it a few goes to get it off.

does that make any sense?

Have a look here:
http://www.off-road.com/toyota/cheaptricks/clipweld/

This is the trick to save you having to worry about those clips...

Stripping down the axle is covered here:

Hope this helps, feel free to post questions or problems during the process.

Well the pipe trick did the job in the end , only after getting really #^%^ and giving it a really goo slam . Onle broke one clip , I can account to being a job getting it back in .
Like the idea of the tack weld , anyone done it ?

On cv is stuffed but the other is ok . So out to the shed to put it in and see if the axle cut has worked out .

Cheers
