I have a 70amp 24v alternator but I don't have to worry about the vac pump anymore. I bought this at Repco and is a standard alternator out of their parts catalogue that they keep in stock (in centrel warehouse though). It was a bolt on upgrade but I don't have TD42 either.
So you either need an engine driven vac pump like the late model GQ's or you can get the factory alternator upgraded. Standard it is 35amp and it can be doubled to 70 amp. Any good auto sparkie should be able to get the buts for this. It use to be done on an exchange basis so while available it isn't an of the shelf part.

Thanks for that info. I have a spare that needs some work done on it, so I may try and get it upgraded. Will keep all posted on outcome.
