Managed to shatter my front diff today on my 2dr Escudo. Anybody got a spare front diff head or know what ratio they are. How much should I be paying or should I sell the truck for parts or as is. Don't really want to spend thousands to fix it. Still drives in 2wd.

I'm pretty sure it is just the diff head. My biggest problem is I can't find the ratio.

pm nstacey , he replaced his a whilst back for the same reason recently on his 2002 1.6 2 dr, he might be able to offer some suggestions and rough prices.....

Skids flatmate Dwayne might know where to get one as well, could try him (SKID), or lilpigzuk? he seems to be a Zuk expert?

TE Puke Partsworld are Zuk wreckers, they might be worth a ring as well..., ask for shane

2.0 V6 manual 4.625

2.0 V6 auto 4.875

You can count the R&P teeth to work it out or just mark the tyre and the tailshaft and see how many revolutions the tailshaft does for one revolution of the tyre to confirm the ratio YOU have.

I have just had diff taken out. has 29 and 8 so that makes 4.875. In a manual. Don't know what that means to your theory.

That's why I said to check what YOU have 'cause it isn't always what you think it might be

Thanks Guys. I have ordered one from Te Puke partsworld. cost $425+GST plus frieght. Pretty expensive but hey. At least I'll be back in the mud this weekend. Sorry CJ didn't mean to come accross narky. When I read it back it didn't sound the same as when I rote it.

actually any of you guys in auckland with a blown zuk diff with the vac' set up want to part with it? I saw one while swapping a mates housing last week and I think I can convert it to a locker by re using the vac set to engage a lock pin rather than the axle gear but would mean a bit of playing around with one. (would require a set of hub locks instead but would be worth the effort I think. PM me if you can help. cheers Steve

thats what the thing is made for... will look at reinforcing it a bit more though to reduce the chance of wind up. but it is more his style of thrashing it that breaks them...

I've chipped a bit the crown wheel at 2 places 180 degrees from each other rest seems all ok, Will I be ok to use this again???

Luckily the casing peice thats broken, I have a spare from my original diff.

Yea.. but all going well the Zuke will soon be retired from any serious offroad work, I think will put it back together how it is now and hopefully it doesn't give up in the next couple of months.

I have been informed that the reason they crack the housing is due to too much windup if that is correct which I would believe it is, it would pay to check your backlash in the diff and reset if needbe.
