Tow hooks
Hey. On my 1990 feroza whats the best option for tow hooks on the back of the truck? And are the factory ones on the front ok?
Re: Tow hooks
don't use factory hooks , 10000lb rated hooks are the best as these bend rather than snap under load, do you have a cookes down there, they sell good ones $15-$20 each, otherwise try http://www.4wdbits.co.nz

Re: Tow hooks
i have a front hook mounting bar off my old feroza, holds two hooks up the right way and also high lift points, only fits without a bull bar. Was built by southern 4wd(?) in chch. i'm down in ingill mid july if you want it, cost you a box of beers, just need bolts and hooks.

Hey that sounds great. My number is 0273058014. Give me a call or a text and let me know when you comin down! Thanks. What beer do you like?
Re: Tow hooks
can you post up a pic of the bar please wouldnt mind seeing how its done.
as for front hooks i threw the factory one away, and replaced it with rated ones off a hilux that had been wreaked, to mount them i drilled right through the other side of the chassis rails placed the hook body inside the rail and packed the extra space out with a couple of nuts and a few washers. then bolted them in with high tensile grade 8 bolts this way the hook will bend and the chances of ripping it of the chassis is greatly reduced, the factory ones just bolt on to one side and if pulled side to side over time weakens the side of the chassis rail and can tear out.
i used grade 12 hex cap bolts on my offroaders hooks and im going to swap the grade 8's on me fez/rocky to the grade 12 hex cap bolts as well
for memory the bolts need to be 100mm long best measure your self before you get some though.

Re: Tow hooks
hey dude if you havent already put the rear hooks on i took my rear bumpers off and put two on the outside mounts, you will have to drill another hole though and you also have a hi lift jack point for it by taking the bumpers off.
Re: Tow hooks
na i havent yet did you brace the mounts up with anything if you havent can i sugest that you do they bend easy as and arent safe to do a snatch recovery off, im just going to keep using a d shackle through the tow bar
Re: Tow hooks
so by mounting them there would be a bad idea?
Re: Tow hooks
yeh with my understanding of what you have done id say yes it would be as they are only made to take the bumper and thats about it if ya give one a belt sideways with a sledgie it will proberly bend ive seen them mounted on one and it looked a bit distorted from what it should have been.
i personally would never pull off one as they arent that well stuck on lol
i just remove the tow ball and put a 3.4 tonne rated shackle through it (the shackles i use will hold up to over 6tone before breaking apparently)
