hi I am s l o w l y rebuilding a spare engine for my jeep it an old F head it is worth getting the valves and seat hardened so I don't have to add valve master
and who would you recommend in CHCH I am looking at doing most of it myself to keep costs down but can't do the machining etc myself or at work :( but can assemble and store :D :D

it is worth getting done if you are pulling it apart a one off piece of mind thing really, Cylinder head specialists do a really good job and are nice to deal with, you could plane a bit more off the head too to increase the compression a bit too it depends what you want out of the rebuild. Relyable do the valve seats and skim the head and bolt it back together, more power take 1 mm, 1.5mm or 2mm off the head to bring the compression up it doesn't take much but you may have more wear and gasket failiures less water compatable too.
