V6 Petrol Surf and Snorkel

Post by penetrator »

I installed a snorkel on my V6 surf myself and used an expoxy resin around all hose ends and joins aswell as a coating of auto silicone around the joins. When i put my hand over the snorkel at windscreen height the engine doesent stall. It runs as if it is about to stall. There might have been a small sound of air being sucked in around the air filter box. I am assuming that the engine should stall pretty much straight away?
I have just siliconed the two parts of the air filter housing together and will try again when this sets. If it still fails to stall should i assume a hole in the tubing between the filter box and snorkel in the guard?(all the snorkel and tubing were second hand) or i have noticed there seem to be a lot of vacum hoses coming off part of the air intake - are these the problem / are they neccessary as the surf that i got the snorkel off didnt have any of these connected.
If anyone can enlighten me a bit more that would be great. By the way im not planning on dunking it in the river any time soon like this either

Well looks like it must have been the seal around the air filter box that was sucking air in.
As i said i sealed that with auto silicone and it stalls straight away now so that puts my mind at ease now if i need to do a reasonable river crossing on future hunting trips.
