2) is this a good idea?

Re: tractor tyres
hi basics.
i just got some firestone tractor tyres 6.00x16 for my suzook. it doesnt say 'not for road use' or anything on them and the guy i had them off used to run his surf around on some exactly the same and reckons they are road legal.
also, i went on the firestone website to read up about them and it says on there that they are a 'winter road tyre'!!!
dont know if i will be doing 100k's with them on
but im going to run them to local trails etc
weemsy

Its better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.
Re: tractor tyres

Re: tractor tyres

Re: tractor tyres
Fcuken scary at high speed in a tractor(50km/ph) on banked corners. The run to one of our grazing blocks used to be about 15 miles away from the main farm. To drive the 4wd ford tractor back in the wet was not fun. On the slooping corners the front end would slide down hill, which required steering the wrong way around the corners
Scary for a twelve year old anyway
Would hate to see what they handle like on a wagon on the road. See if you can try them out

Got a Daihatsu Something, hasn't got a Daihatsu engine.... or diffs.... and it doesn't have windows.... or doors.... but its got tyres....

Re: tractor tyres
When you go forward, they are great, but backwards not so great. They will throw the mud out when you are going forward, but do a bad job of throwing it out when going backward, due to the way the tread works.
Thats what happens with Tractors on the farm anyway( i live on a farm ).

Re: tractor tyres
be aware of the speed ratings on them. driving them on the road over the speed rating and it blows you will probably find the insurance will not pay out and possible fines etc from cops.
there was a good case some years ago of a truck fitted with tractor tires, one blew while going through an intersection. some are only a 30km/h tire

Re: tractor tyres
as i under stand it they need a dot stamp or mark to be legal on the road, the ones that goldie runs are not legal for the road.
This is also refferred to in the winch challenge rules stating tractor type treads are not allowed as they are not a road legal tread pattern

Re: tractor tyres
I've heard some tractor tyres have a maximum speed rating on them. As long as you don't attempt to break the land speed record you should be sweet. A mate said theres a set on trade me on hilux rims.
Nothings a problem if you don't give a f#ck.

Re: tractor tyres
Haven't looked closely at them but we throw Goodyear tractor (Agricultural) tyres on the imports at work.
Don't see how they couldn't be legal on the road coming straight from a dealer.

Do you rekon you could have one facing each way round if you were doing duels to get about the reversing issue? Or would they just work against each other?

one each way with duals would work fine we used to do that on tractors also stops hydroplaning effect on slopes have yet to try on 4x4 just gotta be weary of extra weight on front axles with turning

Re: tractor tyres
I recall a rarmer at home long ago who used to have a holden ute for the farm vehicle and he ran tractor grips one facing forward and the other facing backwards used to get it some crazy places round the paddocks he would just drive up slopes till the front end washed out if he didn't make it up drive to somewhere else and attempt to get up.( this was back in the day before four wheelers)

Good to know it works. Would also stop you sliding sideways a bit as well I'd imagine.

No sorry. I could look on Monday if I remember, but you'd be able to find them on google. Pirrelli also make ag tyres to I do believe.
