DIESEL MOTOR FOR TJ WRANGLERS
Re: DIESEL MOTOR FOR TJ WRANGLERS
Mate, I am just warning you here. You are treading on sacred grounds by even thinking about putting a Japanese engine in an American icon. This is not going to go down well.
Seriously if you want a diesel in a Jeep, buy an XJ (some of which came with one), Grand Cherokees (some with CRDs), or the newer JK Wrangler (factory diesel). Leave TJs alone, they are fine the way they are (if you really want to change the engine, go down the track of a V8 - hemi if possible).
But if you are hell bent on doing a diesel in a TJ, search for a small Cummins (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=535370)

I thought the best part of a TJ was that motor (the 4.0 I mean)

That engine has been used in Cherokees and Grand Cherokees as well. Gives different power bands because of different intake and exhaust lengths.

Yep, did my time with them in the states.
Someone put a Diesel 4 banger into one over there and it created a crowd when the bonnet was opened! Think it was one of those dodgy VM ones though.

GASP [i just woke up from my faint!]
I cant say Ive ever seen one or heard of one done. The mitsi versions were armed with the 2.8 turbo diesel... cant see why ya couldnt put one in a Wrangler.
How about trather than a TJ, ya find a clapped out old YJ and slip one in there instead.... they were born mutants so i cant see why a further mutation couldnt be out of the question!!!

Re: DIESEL MOTOR FOR TJ WRANGLERS
I would be far to scared to do it now..lol..lol.. i really have a soft spot for the wrangler and the prices are really good...Just been looking into it,i reckon they would make a really good bush truck and something that is a bit differant
Re: DIESEL MOTOR FOR TJ WRANGLERS
Mopar is coming out with a bolt on diesel kit (using the JK engine), but when and how much it will cost is anybody's guess. Its geared more towards the European market as an aftermarket replaced. I personally don't think it would materialise because of JKs.
