my 80 died

Post by skid »

as the title says...

my 80 died on the way to work this morning

went around a sweeping corner to the left and it wouldn't pick up after that

pulled over and it would idle but wouldn't rev past 1500rpm

pumped fuel primer thingy on top of filter and it had no movement and then motor died and you could hear an air leak which stopped after a minute and then you could pump primer thingy

which I did and it made it go, but now it has no poke and drives like its got no turbo punch anymore and its a bit spluttery at times

does anyone know what side of the tank the fuel pickup is on

it seems like an air block or something

but now it runs like shit

we're going to take incoming fuel line off and fart around to see if it goes better

any other quick solutions/suggestions

cheers

Cheap to try.

Just wondering if the air hole in tank is blocked. Try taking the fuel cap off and drive straight. Happened to me once and when i turned engine off you could hear air being sucked into tank.

Ok, so in between showers today we pulled the front fuel line off and pumped the filter thingy and it took 5 pumps before fuel came thru.

drove it home, but it surges higher up in the rev range and still feels slightly underpowered.

another thing to note is that every time I put gas in, the fuel cap releases air when unscrewed, but tonight when I unscrewed it, there was no air release ????????

any more ideas

and yes it has faaaarking deisel in it ya smart asses

Check the fuel filter. My terrano did a similar sounding after I used a high pressure under vehicle wash thing. Turns out filter was a bit old and had rusted from inside out and had pin holes in (caused by the water pressure but occuring anyway) ran like S&^T.

Tank breather could be blocked cause in theory the tank should neither blow or suck when you release cap.

Hope its something simple :(

OK smart asses

lets just assume that maybe I went and played in the mud at Aotea one weekend and then maybe did it again 2 weeks later.

Lets just assume that it happened.

Now if mud was to block the tank breather, then where does it run from bla bla bla

p.s. if I try really hard I can get mud to flick up the side of the truck at the road works

I've got 4 or 5 cruiser manuals here (thats coz Phil's never borrowed any of them) but none of them cover diesel engines?
