On the crank pully there are timing marks.
On the front cover there is a mark.
Put the mark on the timing cover between the two marks on the crank pully.

You only need two positions.

You line the marks up once, do the adjustment on the first lot, then rotate the engine 360 degrees and line the marks up again and do the others.

Timing marks are on the injector pump side of the timing cover and a bit of a bastard to see, but they are there so keep looking.

The manual should say that when you have the timing marks in the right place, valves X,X,X,X,Xand X should be rocking and valves X,X,X,X,X and X should be closed. That is a good check to see if you are on the money with the timing marks.

If ya need more specifics, ask!!!

onya diesel,I expected you to help out a fellow Patroler. However,I need to know how to physically rototate the motor to aquire TDC without cranking the igintion.Does that make sense? ie,is there a way to rotate the motor manually, after I have set the 1st lot of valves?I will be doing this on my own.

if its a manual stick it in 2nd-3rd gear with hand break off and rock it by hand...

or put a power bar with correct size socket (24mm i think??)on front crank pully bolt and rotate clockwise...
