5m into ln65 - fuel options.

Post by scs »

yo, putting a 5mge into my hilux and considering various options for fuel delivery. obviously there is standard tank with a an external efi fuel pump, which will need a lift pump as well. I also have a ln130 v6 efi tank here, which is siilair size, but sits slightly lower, but can probaly modify mounts to bring it up, problem here is he filler neck is in a different place but culd prolly be fixed up with a bend or 2, what route have other people taken for this conversion?

ran two fuel pumps one from the fuel tank to the surge tank and another one from the surge tank to the motor, these were both supra fuel pumps(electric ones) but the vl pumps are the same.

why you going for the 5m, they are a great motor but are getting old. I have just pulled out my 5m and have gone for the 2jz

If you want the cheapest way of fueling it just bang on a vl pump from the tank to the motor and leave it at that. To set up a surge tank propley you will be looking at the best part of $300 but its worth it when you get on some hell angles

no it wont its a electric pump so it will suck the gas through the pump so it dose not need to be gravity feed

I never had any fuel issues when running a vl commy pump in my landrover (with injected 202). I also ran low pressure fuel line aswell. No reason to get the expensive shit

commodores mostly have a lift pump to feed the efi pump, efi pumps are hella good at pushing but not very good at sucking. they do starve and quite often end up seizing up, talked to a few efi specialists about it, gonna run a modded surf tank with intank pump to remove any problems.

Fark I ran a vl commy pump for years with it on a standard tank in line down by the fuel tank and never had any troubbble with it. Sounds $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to shag arround with the fuel tank I thought it was going to be done on the cheep. Just do as everyone one else has and use a vl commy pump in line
