YIPPY I CAN TYPE IN CAPS TOO

depends where counter gets pulse from
some are from alt and also alt->to a pulse gennerator under dash

have you checked all fuses?
is it charging?
check back of alt and make sure there are no broken wires
have you got a gauges working except rev?
check the color of wire at dash to rev and see if same color at alt

Not sure if they are the style but my Nissan Safari had the same problem.

After a lot of mucking around at the local auto sparky, it was found to be the following;

A reducer that sits in the passenger footwell had got wet and blown, this in turn caused the sender unit on the timing gear to go finally roasting the rev counter.....

Replaced the reducer, replaced the sender unit, had the counter repaired in Christchurch....ended up around $400...so had to balance that up against aftermarket item.....

Or you could have gone to a wreckers!!!

You will not have a reducer in the Terrano. The whole system is 12V.

Use a volt meter to test to see if the sender on the end of the cam shaft is working.

Have you checked and cleaned the plug in the engine bay which connects the sender unit to the wiring loomb??

just with regard to the sender on the turbo models they don't run off the front of camshaft as there is no sender on mine i believe the non-turbo do though.

I figure the rev counter runs off sensor on left handside off motor infront of desiel pump however i'm not 100% sure. I have asked nurmeous people and every body has different opinion on where the rev counter signal comes from.

So at the moment still trying figure out pity you can't get good manual for these things.

Hmm.
Ok, what is the chassis modle number and what is the engine modle number??

I was under the impression it was a TD27(t) engine, and a WD21 Chassis.

If that is the case, let me know, i will post a photo of what you are looking for and where.
Cheers,
Pete.

hey does the needle move at all if just slugish like adam666 the needle has possible bent and touching on the back bit have fixed my and ucked the work ute (a banana is straighter than its needle) you might be able to remove it and CAREFELLY VERY CAREFULLEY warm it up and bend straight if you use a fag lighter it will catch fire
the speedo needle also does this
hope this doesn't confuse
