4wd no longer working??

Guys

I got slightly off the road today in the snow and had my lr wheel in a ditch no sweat flip it into 4wd and away - nope.

The light came on all good but I went nowhere and the dude standing on the road said "put it into 4wd' mutter mutter mumble it is said I - nope said he front wheels are not driving".

I tried a couple of tests in gravel and snow later on when no one was looking (drop the clutch) rear wheels spun no evidence of front wheel spin. Yes the hubs where both locked in.

What is going on? How do I make it work? How do I check it I thought up on axle stands??

Any help or guidance will be most appreciated.
Cheers

Chris

maybe pull them down and clean and grease them.

Dumb question but they were engaged right? Did they feel tight to engage?
