td42 exhaust
Which size exhaust is best on a non turbo td42 swb safari. thinking im going to make it up myself got a price of 900 which seems way over the top to me. after more power for the old girl think doing this should help. was thinking 2.5inch any help much appreciated.
Re: td42 exhaust
I personally would go 3" if you are considering a turbo in the future, might save a few $$ in the long run?
Re: td42 exhaust
yea someone mentioned this to me would this give me more power or the same do you reaken? also i once heard that diesils need back pressure would this affect that? also not doing manifold as i have a pto winch which would require a custom jobby apparently

Re: td42 exhaust
I have been told that diesels don't need the back pressure, unlike petrols, so you can go bigger with less worries, hopefully someone can confirm or deny this?
Re: td42 exhaust
safaripete are those extractors of yours off the shelf or custom? what brand/make? also have you got a muffler was wondering if id get away with no muffler. might try it and chuck one in after if it to loud.
Re: td42 exhaust
3" on a NA ?? proberly noisy as hell. a lot harder to keep a big exaust quiet so i would recommend 2.5" at the most. fit a couple of mufflers and it should pass the legals.
back pressure..... i think its more about tuning rather than backpresure. deisels have limited rpm and fairly mild cams so tuning options are fairly limited. still can be worth while to tweak things especially with a good exhaust. you may get a few HP by tweaking cam timing to suit the exhuast.

not sure but i have been told petrol extractors fit?
i have 1 muffler in the middle was thinking of taking it out and seeing if it makes a difference at some stage but could get abit noisey
will try it with no muffler at some stage soon and let ya know
i can take some pics of the extractors if ya like
Re: td42 exhaust
2.5" for NA and 3" for Turbo. Bro-in-Law has a 3" system on his NA and it is a dog, drones no matter what you do muffler wise and has way less grunt because of it.
